Amoxicillin is just another name for penicillin. Allergies exist. Probiotics should be taken while taking it to avoid side effects.

I had a bad reaction to amoxicillin about 30 years ago....ended up with a red rash over my entire body. Now I always tell the health care providers I am allergic...not sure if that is still true, but I don't want to risk a problem.

In most medical questionnaires they ask if you have allergies and many times they are specifically asking about penicillin. If you are allergic to anything that has "-CILLIN" on the end of it, then that means it's penicillin. There are a ton of them.

Thanks for all the replies. If I had known I would've been taking yogurt or probiotics. Now I'll just have to wait this one out.

I get angioedema from the cillin group of antibiotics. I've also reacted with hives.

I have only gotten it from the dentist...........and it doesn't work very well.   I have gotten rebound infections.    THREE in fact, on my last root canal.

They used to prescribe this first for esp kids years ago for ear infections. Before mine were out of that stage, they told me that it had been used so much, it was not very effective.

I had it later as an adult and it never got rid of anything either! Didn't work anymore for the ear infections or for my things.

Anyone have a bad reaction to amoxicillin? Have been off for a few days per Dr. but still feeling the nauseous. How long did it last for you.

I didn't even know they prescribe it to adults.  My daughter had to take it years ago for sever ear infections.  She was ok and then one year she took it and broke out in a rash. Now she has to tell doctors at the age of 34 that she might be allergic to Amoxicillan.
