This posted on “Alzheimer’s Connected” forum by Lane Simonian on December 31, 2018:
“Here is a good recent review article on the use of essential oils through inhalation for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease.
https://www.thieme-connect.de/products/ejournals/html/10.1055/a-0758-0188
From the abstract:
Out of 55 essential oils identified for Alzheimerʼs intervention, 28 have been included in the present review. A short description of in vivo studies of 13 essential oils together with clinical trial data of Salvia officinalis, Salvia lavandulifolia, Melissa officinalis, Lavandula angustifolia, and Rosmarinus officinalis have been highlighted. In vitro studies of remaining essential oils that possess antioxidant and anticholinesterase potential are also mentioned. Our literary survey revealed encouraging results regarding the various essential oils being studied in preclinical and clinical studies of Alzheimerʼs disease with significant effects in modulating the pathology through anti-amyloid, antioxidants, anticholinesterase, and memory-enhancement activity.”

Please refrain from posting these unsubstantiated claims. My husband has Alzheimer’s and, believe me, we have looked into medications and therapies to help slow down the disease. Yes, there is a lot of research going on but, no, there is no cure. These anecdotal stories mean nothing.

Some studies have been cited on NIH dot gov regarding the use of EO and their effects on Alzhiemer's patients. Here's a quote from a recent publication (Oct 2018):
"Our literary survey revealed encouraging results regarding the various essential oils being studied in preclinical and clinical studies of Alzheimer's disease with significant effects in modulating the pathology through anti-amyloid, antioxidants, anticholinesterase, and memory-enhancement activity."

Very interesting @LTT1 Thanks!

There is no cure.
There ARE some methods of improving quality of life.
Most are discovered and published having only anecdotal evidence.
You are free to try methods that may or may not help your loved one.
Most will admit that healthy living habits including attention to exercise and diet result in increased anti-oxidant activity in the body.
Anti-oxidants are postulated to help reduce amyloid tangles in the brain.

Thanks for posting this, @LTT1. It is interesting (in more ways than one) that they are studying EOs in this way.

If that doesn't work, try stripping naked and dancing around your lawn at midnight on a Wednesday in a month that has an R in it. I'm sure some quack online has a "study" that says that will cure Alzheimers.

Where was it said it would ‘cure’?
