I turned 78 in June.
I wear glasses and hearing aids - no big deal. So do/did most of the people in my family.
I have osteoarthritis - no big deal. Staying active and physical therapy takes care of that.
Following a fall last November - I had some balance issues - but PT helped with that.
Exercise - exercise - exercise .... doc said to remain active. I try to walk a couple of miles each week.

Nothing major so far. I walk between 3 and 4 miles a day most days of the week.
I think that helps.

@rms1954 I turned 66 back in the spring. I've had a few new concerns....sometimes when lying down my fingertips and eventually my hands can go numb...kind of scary! I've mentioned this to the doctor and he wants me to go for tests.
Driving in the car (not as a passenger though...only driving) I can't last longer than an hour or so. My right leg can go numb and painful at the same time with the pain radiating down my leg to the ankle.
On a positive side even though my eye doctor said that I have the beginnings of cataracts, my vision is better than ever! I don't understand it but sometimes I can actually see better without my glasses than with!
However I really worry the most about my DH. I've mentioned before that he has a rare autoimmune neurological brain illness and he has a lot of balance issues along with some memory problems.
He's only 2 years older than me but the chronic illness has aged him greatly and he looks 10-15 years older than he is.

Not a change but the way I am treated in situation I am still a well spoken person and sometimes when a person on the other end of the phones sees I am 65 they start speaking down to me and become very rude

You would be really worried if you were like me and have two knee replacements and you fell UP the stairs and broke your back like I did.
I'm like the bunny rabbit, I just kep going and going. I'm often not as stable like I'd like to be and used to be.
It's all because of my back, I'm always in pain so I end up twisting and turning without thinking about it so it won't hurt as bad.
I also have arthritis everywhere but you can see it in my hands (knuckles).
I was just telling my daughter it would be amazing to be able to eat anything you wanted and not gain weight. I don't get hungry because I can't taste or smell but I do out of boredom eat junk. Not so much sweets but like potato chips and tootsie roll pops.

I've got birthday #65 coming up, so coupled with watching Mom slip into the dark abyss of dementia, I do think about mental and physical aging.
I have two new knees that work very well, and rarely have an ache or pain. Strength wise, I can carry a 50 lb bag of dog food much easier than my husband. I read, write, and do word puzzles daily. I have always protected my hearing.
I am extremely safety conscious now, and do think of my stability in certain situations. I always have the fear of falling, and take my time to assure my footing when I get out of bed in the morning, or rise from a seated position. I don't like navigating stairs, and always hold onto the railing for security. I never climb higher than my sturdy two-step stool with a grab bar. I never over extend my reach. I always wear very stable shoes, loafers or athletic shoes; no flip flops, no scuffs, no cheap slippers. My house has no rugs, outside of the ones in the bathroom to step out of the shower on. My house is never totally dark at night now, between a lamp on a timer and battery candles, my husband can easily find his way thru during the darkest hours.
A dear friend of mine died a week ago today at 68 years old, due to a household fall where she hit her head.

Didn,t notice changes until 84. I still workout, treadmill, bike, weight and yoga. Also yard and clean my own house. The changes some were mentioned, but I lost 2 and 3/4 " but weight stayed the same. My exercise keeps me going. Sixty one years of exercise and it helps keep me strong foday. I am going to stop climbing the ladder to trim my four big bushes.
I am very strong, but am walking a little slower.
I tell young people, EXERCISE and don,t stop, because it helps you when and if you are fortunate to become elderly.
I am forgetting names. I do have arthritis, but if I didn,t exercise it would be worse. I am fortunate to be in good health so far. Sometime I forget I,m elderly, but friends and family keep reminding me, yet they are amazed what I still do. My son's said, no more ladders, they will do the top of bushes, I can do the bottom. Ha.
Keep strong, don,t give up. Wish I was in my 60,S, That is young.

I fear of getting dementia, and also losing my mental health. Fortunately, I have no physical health issues. Except like about 10 pounds overweight.
I think I am getting more forgetful, like turning the oven on, and leaving it on all night.
Or forgetting to lock the front door if I go out.
Or wearing one blue and one black sock.
My family has a history of mental illness. One relative spent time in a mental institution before committing suicide.
I have ongoing morbid thoughts, and am afraid of suddenly dying. Alone.

I hate that I'm shrinking! I started out short, so at this rate I could disappear lol. I notice that I can't reach things in the same kitchen cabinets I could reach before. And the last thing I want to do at this age is start climbing a ladder more than I have to. I bought a couple of those long poles with a grabber at the end and they've been a big help. But it's not fun getting shorter every day.
