@On It I've had acid reflux since I was in high school. I often sleep with a wedge pillow like @pupwhipped shows in her post. When it gets really bad I find sleeping on this pillow really helps me. I take 20mg of Omeprazole daily and it helps keep it under control. I also use the cookbook "Dropping Acid" for recipes often. I have not been diagnosed with Barrets but I have GERD and a Hiatal Hernia.

The instructions on my prescription bottle say, "Take one capsule by mouth every morning before breakfast." A yellow sticker says one hour before eating.
The capsule works for 24 hours for me. It is a prescription strength, not OTC. I hope this information helps.

Many years ago my doctor told me to raise the top of the bed 4" with bricks. So I have one brick under each of the top legs of the frame. It does work - except when I wear a sllky-type nightgown - I then tend to slide down lol. The brick is only about 2" tall - I bet if I did the 4" I'd find myself on the floor! Anyway, the 2" works for me most of the time.

First I must say, it looks like a little Calico picture under your nic. Ours is about 8 months old now!
I have been taking Nexium(Esomeprazole) 40mg capsules for many years now. My original diagnosis is in one of my other posts.
Because of my originally severe diagnosis of Barrett's Esophagus, I take these capsules twice a day. I pretty much split them as close to 12 hours as possible.
In my case, it is not enough for 1 capsule to last 24 hours. I know why I am taking this dose, but best to get the results of your Endoscopy, or other tests, from your Gastro Doctor. Understanding "your why" for taking this med is one of the most important factors.

@hckynutjohn Yes, my little calico..and yours looks precious..
My doctor told me to take Prilosec (20 mg) for 14 days 2 x day. I did that and now I just started on the 1 a day for 2-4 weeks as she recommended and then as needed. I never had it as bad as alot of people on here. Mine was mild compared to some. Mostly at night. Anyway, I took 1 this morning so I will have to see how that works out. I may have to change to evening time if this don't work. Prilosec has REALLY helped. No Acid Reflux at all. Hope it continues.

I am doing the nexium 24 hour that I take one in the morning. However, it clearly says on the box do not do this for more than 2 weeks. In fact, there are only 14 pills in the bottle. Not sure what I will do after this, other than avoid trigger foods etc., but it's clearly a temporary fix that for the symptoms and not the real issue. I am more interested in fixing the issue causing it. I will need to see a specialist. Anyone know if stress can cause this?

What procedures have you had done to look for the source? All of my Asymptomatic issues were diagnosed in my very first Endoscopy.
GERD
Hiatal Hernia
Inflamed Esophagus
Barrett's Esophagus
Never had 1 symptom. Only reason for my 1st Endo ever? My brother-in-law was diagnosed with Esophageal Cancer. Even though I had no symptoms, I thought it would be a good idea to have the Endoscopy. Had I not, and with Barrett's Esophagus? Might not be typing this now.

@KittySoftPaws I mentioned to my PCP that I thought it got worse when I was stressed. She nodded while continuing to record info on my chart. Some other causes I have experienced are being overweight, sleep apnea, a peptic ulcer, and eating trigger foods.

I have it all including Barett's and the best suggestion I have for you is please do not lie down at least within 3 hours of eating dinner at night. Yes, I now it's hard. I do not care for the wedge personnaly but to each his own.
