a pap test or do you still get one? I am having my yearly check up on Monday. I have had a pap test every year since I was 16 years old and I am now 65. Of course, I will go over this with my doctor, but I am just wondering if there is a time when it isn't warranted anymore. I am not on hormone replacement and have no issues.
Just wondering what others are or aren't doing about this.
TIA

My last pap was done two years ago (age 63). My cervix has completely closed, so my dr wasn’t able to do one. I was told if I haven’t had any abnormal pap results in the last ten years that it’s okay to discontinue getting them. Ask your dr.

I'm 68 and I can't remember the last time I had one. Maybe 10 years ago. I never had any problems but found them to be painful so on my own I decided to stop.

At age 80, I have never had a problem, but my geny retired, and so did I. I still have my overies, but had a LeForte 15 years ago, and that is my reason to keep going. A LeForte is the procedure to keep your bladder from decending out of you.

I am in the same boat as you two. They have had to use a child's speculum the last several years to even perform the test. Mine have been normal for years.
I fully intend to run this by my doctor. I hope she says she doesn't see the need anymore.
Thanks for responding.

That is very interesting, @HLP. Has that procedure helped? My mother suffered with incontinence for years. It is a hard thing to live with. Is that why you had this done? She had a pessary, but it did little to help. I pray I don't end up with that problem.
Thanks for answering.

I have them every 2 years and I am now 65. I have always been a strong believer in preventative medicine. I think that is why I am still alive after having cancer 28 years ago...

I was told last year at the age of 61 that I didn’t need to have them any more because they’ve always came back negative. I still go because she still does a breast exam and to give me the paperwork for a mammogram. I might make this year my last but not sure or I might just go every other year.

I think after a certain age (maybe 70?) medicare no longersrecommends or covers them. I still see my gyno. doctor every year though. Some visits are totally out of pocket since no coverage. Haven't had a pap in a few years.

Am I the only one who makes up titles before they open?
AT WHAT AGE DID YOU STOP HAVING A....
- hissyfit?
- care in the world?
- period?
- (n) alarm clock to wake yourself?
- giggle over the silliest things?
- playlist of current music & just listen to the oldies but goodies?
on & on....!
