Just a reminder that this is not all due to diet. There are some professions, like firefighters, who are susceptible to this cancer.

Like the PSA says...it’s preventable...diet & lifestyle is the answer.
The cancer is not preventable. We can possibly lower our odds by knowing the early symptoms & getting treatment but it's way to aggressive to pronounce it's preventable.
It smacks of victim blaming.
We can control what we put into our bodies via smoking, drinking etc but there is a component we can't control, like our food supply. Unless you own a farm, growing organic, whether you are vegan or not, we have to accept the food supply we are offered & make the best choices available. Environment plays a role.
I don't write this to debate YOU, but I wanted my post to be attached to yours to give another perspective. I know you are repeating what's in the PSA, which IMO is extreme.

So we’re not believing the Esophageal Cancer Action Network
and American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.
Got it.
⬇️Lifestyle & Diet turns to heartburn.
➡️Heartburn turns to Barrett’s Esophagus.
⬆️Barrett’s Esophagus turns to Esophageal Cancer.
I want 25,000,000 people not to suffer from heartburn.
I want those 16,000 people each year to live.
I would think anyone who cares for others would want that.
If my words...repeat, ‘words’...are considered ‘extreme’
then obviously you don’t understand cancer within our society.
Cancer...repeat, cancer...is extreme.

My father passed away from this cancer at age 79. What an absolutely awful cancer. Feeding tube for 6 months and then he passed.
If you have persistent heartburn, do not just keep taking Tums or Rolaids. That's what he did for years. He burped constantly and we just thought he was being funny. They didn't know much back then about cancer and he did go to the dr. but they just prescribed Tagamet.
I also have Gerd (none of my siblings have it) so I take a pill prescribed by my dr that I have to take every day.
We all are going to die of something but after seeing my dad suffer that is a cancer I sure don't want. He couldn't even have a sip of water.....

I am sorry to hear about father and the suffering he endured. I don't know what years you were referring to when you said "they didn't know much back then about cancer".
My brother-in-law was diagnosed with Esophageal Cancer back in the early 1980's, it was well known then. He had a rare surgical procedure which removed much of his stomach and Esophagus and lived 18 pretty good years after.
It is such a shame people still die from this disease since it is preventable for almost everyone. A simple Endoscopic Procedure can save many, including family members, from so much suffering. It is hard for me to grasp why anyone would not have this procedure done if having heartburn and other well known gastrointestinal issues.

I think by the time they found out he had it (he had complained of a sore throat) he had a 4 in tumor in there and it was inoperable (1995). They did radiation but all it did was burn his skin and mouth. My parents were the type that disregarded health problems because they didn't believe in going to the dr unless it was serious. They had physicals and blood work (both had high blood pressure) but who knows how long his throat bothered him. He used to say a lot, "I don't feel good mama"...and we just thought it was because he wanted to leave an event (he didn't like to hang around chatting all afternoon at peoples houses). They gave him 6 months and that was about exactly right.
We've had a lot of cancer in our family - 4 cousins all passed from various cancers and my brother passed from pancreatic at age 63. My mom had colon cancer at 83 but it was caught in a colonoscopy, she had surgery and lived 10 more years! No chemo, nothing - she was perfect fine afterwards.
You never know but I do get all my screenings.
