ANYONE USING XIIDRA FOR DRY EYES?

Just got back from my eye appointment. I have been suffering with dry eye that last few years and OTC drops is no longer working as well as it did.

My doctor gave me Xiidra samples to try and is going to see if my insurance will cover it.

Has anyone else used this or is using it?

Pros and cons?

TIA

Re: ANYONE USING XIIDRA FOR DRY EYES?

I tried it a few years back.  My eyes burned and it took about 30 minutes for the blurriness to go away.

I currently am using SootheXP and Ivizia.  Those seem to help.  Also, just purchased Blink.  Have only used it once so I can't say if it works.

I also used to use Restasis, which was very expensive and I don't see much difference between that and the SootheXP and Ivizia.

Always nice to let others know your experience with products.

It did nothing for me, I also tired Restasis which did nothing. I am currently using Cequa and it seems to be working and a 90 day supply cost my nothing. I will see how this works. I am able to use it once and save the vile and use it in the afternoon for my second dose.

Re: ANYONE USING XIIDRA FOR DRY EYES?

I also have dry eyes.  My doctor has recommended prescription eye drops, however they were too expensive or my insurance would not cover them.

I use over the counter drops.  Usually Refresh or Ivizia.  Both work pretty well.  My eye doctor also told me about about products by Optase.  One is a spray that you put on your lids the other is tree tea eyelid cleanser.  I have been using both and they seem to help.  The spray I use before bed and the cleanser when I am taking a shower.

@quilter61  Oh I too tried one with tea tree oil which has such high ratings.  Cliradex?  It's tea tree oil and it burned the heck out of my eyes.  Threw all the pads out.

Will try Ivizia and Optaze.  And I don't use them every day because of getting used to it.  I remember when I was a youngster dating an attorney.  He used Visine and his eyes would get worse and worse with his continued use.  I asked my Doctor and he said the man is overusing it.  It's a problem for sure.

The burn bothers me mainly.  One cannot see it but in the morning my eyes tear and then it stops once up.  I thought it was my allergies.  Probably both as well.  We have very high ceilings and the vent is blowing on my face.  Wonder if that's the problem.  It never was before except for sneezing. lol.

Re: ANYONE USING XIIDRA FOR DRY EYES?

My adult daughter has been using Xiidra for the past 3 months or so.  She uses Avenova spray to clean her eyelids and lashes first, then uses the Xiidra.   This combination has worked very well for her dry eyes and eyelid/lashes.  The only thing she doesn't like about the Xiidra, and it's also a side effect as listed on the box, is the metal taste it seems to leave in your mouth after using it.

I tried those but my vision would be blurred for at least an hour afterwards.  The most soothing over the counter drops I've tried are Theratears Extra.

Re: ANYONE USING XIIDRA FOR DRY EYES?

I have dry eyes b/c of a lipid/oil (meibum) deficiency from the eye glands. It's a common problem with the type of AI disease I have so any moisture just evaporates too fast from my eyes. I need to use oil-based eye drops such as SoothXP. Helps put a small layer of mineral oil over my eyeballs which acts as an occlusive so the water doesn't evaporate too fast. It works fairly well but it does make my vision blurry for a while.
