I transfer my MC from the big tub to a small container and I do lose some product as it is so light it flies around.  I'm not sure how much I lose doing this every few weeks, but I imagine it adds up.

I dunno.  A scoop is a scoop is a scoop.  I never used more or less, given the price of the product. I was never wasteful and fully expect the maker of the product to give what was promised--a full year's worth.  Instead I got 9 months worth of product.
