Re: AIP DIET Autoimmune Protocol Diet

@sfnative - THANK YOU for posting. My original experience with this lifestyle was PALEO, and what I did was NOT “more strict” than Paleo, it was Paleo, pure and simple, RECOMMENDED y an excellent chiropractor (nothing to BUY).

I will be seeking out the book that helped your daughter.

Hope you’re having a good day!

This "diet" is so wrong.  Actually will create inflammation and toxicity....another gimmick.  I agree with no dairy/eggs, processed food, and sugar...common sense that most of us are aware of.  A diet of oil and meat....that's a ticket to the nursing home,   Oil clogs your arteries and destroys your entothelial cells and results in heart disease. Meat... don't even get me started with the list.  Eating animals destroys your health, the environment, and life. You defeat the purpose of the "diet".  Sheesh....just keep it simple and eat whole plant based food....lots of it.  The best for health and yummy.

If meat destroys ones health, why are there any humans remaining on earth?

(It's "endothelial" and I don't buy it.)

Heart Disease doesn’t ‘just happen’ overnight.

Eating saturated fats in meats & fish and

cooking/eating processed oils -will- injure

the endothelium.

The endothelium is the lining in the vein.

Saturated fats & oils will restrict those veins causing

the veins & endothelial wall to be brittle.

To say ‘I don’t buy it’...is ridiculous. 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♂️

The endothelium is the foundation of

cardiovascular health.  It’s Human Body 101.

To not imply it doesn’t exist is crazy talk.

Again, heart disease doesn’t happen overnight.

Those who -reverse- heart disease, T2 diabetes,

obesity & a long list of modern day ailments eat

the foods for healthy endothelium.

Starches, fruit, vegetables, beans, greens

Hi Violann,

I read your long post and wholeheartedly agree.

The more I think about my post on the book, the more I could kick myself for not researching to determine whether the author has created a newer edition.  Either way, I can tell you "cross my heart and hope to die," that between the advice and tinctures from Dr. Raina Lassie and this book, my daughter was able to turn her Chron's Disease around!!!  In 15 years, she has had only 2 flares and those occurred within 5 years of starting the anti-inflammatory food plan - AMAZING BEYOND WORDS!!!

And when I was struck with "D" after eating a prepared Caesar Wrap from a much loved national chain, I just thought it was going to be a 48-72 hour "D" bug.  However, the Caesar Wrap turned into Microscopic Colitis, so as soon as I received that diagnosis, I called my daughter and asked her about "that book," because we'd had many conversations about her success.  That's when I purchased it, changed my food plan to the anti-inflammatory food plan to go along with the sulfasalazine antibiotic I had to take for 13 months.  Everything went perfect.  However, when we moved to the same city as my daughter, I became a patient of Dr. Lassie and went through numerous blood, urine and stool tests.  Dr. Lassie had me on tinctures for about 10 months, as my gut flora was really messed up and I had roundworms - EWE! -  and those bacteria you get from cats, if you're not careful - EWE! - I had always been soooooo careful with wash-ups and cat box, etc., and our 2 Burmese had passed by then.  Gross, gross, gross.  My poor gut.  Dr. Lassie did explain that every cat owner, no matter how many times they wash their hands, or, like me, glove up for little box changes, can come foul of that bacteria, because cats lick their bottoms, then clean their fur with their tongues, then we pet them, then our hands find their way onto our faces.  Oh, geez.  I was so relieved that after all those months on her tinctures that my gut was totally back to normal.  To sum it up, because of the various bacterial contaminants in that Caesar Wrap+ cats, we had to work on the floral imbalance + cat bacteria + roundworms, which was severe.  All better after 10 months, thanks to Dr. Lassie.

Huh?

O-Lort this is crazy talk.

If your ‘doctor’ advertises in the free local ‘pennysaver’,

anything is possible.  So many excuses...now the cats?

I agree with you both.

As far as the holidays go...I have not been able to eat a classic Thanksgiving meal at all for at least five years.

Oh, yes, I do miss it, but just remembering the misery of it makes me run and scream for AIP!

My Amy Meyer MD shakes are safe, for me. Thank heavens there is SOMETHING for me!

I believe I won't tempt fate this year (although I will enjoy cranberry sauce and a bite of pumpkin pie (avoiding the crust!)

Has anyone tried this diet?

If so, what have you found to eat?

It is very restricted!

@LTT1

I’ve tried so many diets and driven my girls crazy trying to find all these different foods for me, and I’ve never seen a difference in how I feel because of what I eat!

I find that if I eat small meals and drink my Orgain nutrition drinks twice a day, my stomach stays fairly quiet and my pain and fatigue levels come and go.

Prednisone is the only thing I take for pain now. It’s a wonder med for me.  Whatever damage it has done to me has been done.  I am 81, and not going to try anything new anymore. I take three meds and will stick to that regimen until whenever.  I am at peace with that.

I realize for you younger folks who still have a lot of time left, you want to improve your lives and I don’t blame you for that at all . . . I would feel the same way.

ETA:  I failed to mention I eat only white meat chicken and salmon/tuna.  I gave up beef, ham, pork, deli products, etc. many years ago for different reasons.  I never missed them.

@LilacTree

I know, believe me, I know!

I believed just like you.

But steroids such as dexamethasone quit working for me (extreme leg swelling). Antibiotics were becoming ineffective and my guess: my migraine/sinus infections were probably due to inflammation not infection.

Age 50 found me with IBS and GERD.

If there was help out there, I didn't know where.

Started reading at age 66, after retirement, and wondered at first about Amy Meyer MD.

One idea of hers I will quote is that her patients had reached the point where the only food they could digest was pure beef protein. This made an impression.

Many people on my FaceBook groups have seen Functional Medicine doctors (such as Cleveland Clinic). I now buy this member's suggested probiotic (BIOHM). The first time I took it my intestines actually "rattled"!

I took a big step when I started her Paleo Protein "shakes." Oh, they go down so good and are so healing; well, they feel healing.

The pardon me "c**p" manufacturers use in most product makes me 😡. I have been reacting to "glycols" etc for about 5 years.  In my food; in barium CAT scan; in shampoo, in meds; etc etc. They break out my skin and affect my joints.

I want everyone I care about to check out LDN..Low Dose Naltrexone. This (not a med...an immune modulator) is being used for it's off-label effects and has relieved the aches, pains, inflammation of thousands.

There are some sufferers on the FB groups who suffer from RA, Lyme, fibromyalgia, thyroid. They say the LDN has made life livable.

My sinus symptoms are GONE. My IBS is GONE. My fibromyalgia is almost GONE.  One must look at the biochemical actions of LDN to understand why it works. It harnesses our own endorphins' healing.

Sorry this is so long. My dear Derm told me that he could not endorse it's effects b/c there are no clinical studies. ($$$$) But he told me that it did work for SOME of his patients. I believe I'm one of them!❤️🥰

Hi @LilacTree

Do you remember I suggested low dose naltrexone to you a couple of years ago?  You were, I think, about to have an appointment and were going to check with your doctor (or maybe it was a new one in an area a bit farther from you) at the time.  Did anything come of that? Have you had a chance to try it?

For me, no matter the medication, eating the right foods for me truly and always makes a difference.

ETA:  BTW, @LilacTree , I wanted to let you know that, as a fellow RA patient, I highly recommend Amy Myers book (picture below).  It's only $12.53 at amazon.  Be sure to follow the plan for at least 30 days so you can be sure you've given your body enough time to let it tell you whether it's making a difference.  I'd skip the accompanying recipe book.  That one doesn't have good reviews, and there are plenty of pretty interesting recipes in her original book to keep you on track.

ETA #2:  Also look for a new supplement combining turmeric, ginger, and black pepper.  This is said to help a lot to relieve inflammation, the cause of much of our pain.  The black pepper is needed to help with absorption of the turmeric.  Be aware that some of them come in tablets, not capsules, if swallowing is an issue.  I didn't find a capsule in the store so I went with a tablet version.  But I'm including an image of a capsule version available on amazon. That one has over 1700 reviews on amazon, 85% of which are 5 star!  It will be in my next order.

Best wishes for effective pain management!  Heart Heart

Re: AIP DIET Autoimmune Protocol Diet

@Hippiified

To answer your question: the Lichen Planus is not gone. However, it is under control.

When all symptoms disappear, if they ever do, people refer to this as "in remission."

I feel lucky because I seem to be keeping my hair, or most of it. If it is thinning, it is doing so evenly all over.

The up at 3am itching has stopped, thank goodness.

What a strange disease is all I have to say!

Thank you for asking.
