A pleasant surprise at my dr visit

Today had my Welcome to Medicare visit with dr.  She spent about an hour with me, going over prescriptions, tests she thinks I should have now I'm 65.  I got weighed and I ususally do not look.  It usually reads in units (?) so I really don't know what it is.  This time she pressed a button and it showed my real weight.  Seriously, for months I have thought I was 15 pounds heavier!  I am so pleasantly surprised!  I knew my pants were loose, but just figured it's cause I have thin legs.  Also got my pneumonia shot and scheduled for dexa scan (which I will only get if insurance pays for).  Love my dr - she's so thorough and really listens to me.   I can breathe a little "lighter" now!  I've been very hard on myself about my weight lately.

Good for you, @hoosieroriginal. I know you feel good and were not pushed in and out with your fifteen allotted minutes. You're lucky.

I, too, have a wonderful, young, female doctor who takes care of me. She makes sure I have all tests, and I never feel rushed.

I like her so much I send her a Christmas gift. Smiley Happy

@febe1 - I am truly blessed to have found this dr.  My last dr never mentioned my high blood pressure/hypertension - ever.  That's the first thing this dr treated me for and I feel like she saved my life.  I just wish I had found her sooner.

Re: A pleasant surprise at my dr visit

I never heard of a welcome to Medicare visit. Did your Doctor request the visit?   I visited the Doctor 2 weeks ago. I was under my company health plan then.

Glad to hear it you were pleasantly surprised.

Re: A pleasant surprise at my dr visit

Congrats!

I just had my Welcome to Medicare visit a few weeks ago. You get one free Welcome visit within the first year of being on Medicare. But don't call it a physical when you call for your appointment. My doctor spent an hour with me. Got my last ever Pap. They did a vision check, pneumonia shot, and EKG. Signed me up for a dexa scan. I was very pleasantly surprised at how thorough it was.

Even better, my doc said NO when I asked if she thought about changing her practice to one of those membership practices where you pay a fee each month and they don't take insurance or Medicare. It means I get to keep seeing her!

PS: her office weighs in kilograms as well. Just multiply by 2.2 for pounds.

I'm on Medicare, and it covered my DexaScan last year.  I'll bet yours will be covered.  I had osteoporosis for the first time.  I previously had osteopenia.  I've started Prolia injections every six months for it.
