A drug's most dangerous side effects often aren't discovered until it's on the market

@SeaMaiden

So true. One of my friends died suddenly from a brain aneurysm due to a medication. She was 22 years old. A bright light taken from us too soon.

That's exactly why I won't take biologics for my RA.  Even the known side effects they present during the tv ads are off-puttinig.

This is worth reading if you are taking  biologics.

This is exactly why I won’t take biologics, and my rheumatologist is hot to put me on Rituxan. I’m going to print this out and bring it with me to my next appointment in August.  Thank you so much for this.

I have been on biologic for over 14 years and they have allowed me to live a full, vibrant life . I made this choice because I did nor want to be in a wheel chair or bed.

Every one has to make their own choices...my rheumatologist has always been very clear with potential,side effects. I have just started Rituxan and yes, there are some problems but I am feeling back to normal.

Every drughas potentialissues...and as I said each person must make their own decision.

I have been injecting Enbrel for 9 years and I am fine.  Nothing on my lungs.  You are at risk with any drug you take so you have to pay attention to any side effects when first taking the drug.  Even after the first couple weeks and months, years on a drug pay attention to side effects.  You can't live in fear and pain because that is not living.

I’ve believed this for a long time. Several of the drugs I used to take were taken off the market, Two of them were Vioxx and Seldane.

 I routinely question my doctors whenever they want me to go on a new medication. Then I go home and read everything I can about the new medication.

In 1995-96, I was suffering from chronic sinus infections. My ENT put me on Cipro. I started suffering from Achilles tendonitis. I was sent to physical therapy. Nothing worked. Finally, I went online and found a nurses’ website that reported on studies attributing Achilles tendinitis to Cipro and related antibiotics. My ENT dismissed it. My orthopedist did not. Months later my ENT apologized since he finally checked the research. To this day he uses this example in his medical school courses to explain to students that they should listen to their patients.

Wow!  I would have never thought cipro could have a connection to achilles tendonitis!  Glad you found the information and took it to your doctor.  He's a better doctor now because of you.
