The data is widely available from numerous sources. The ones I used in writing the post were The NY Post, USA Today, WebMD and AP.

My post was intended to take a pause and acknowledge the horrendous loss.

I also acknowledged the benefits of vaccination!

@Isobel Archer The sanctions on China imposed by the other guy are still in place. There are proposals in Congress to deal with intellectual theft, electronic interference and sanctions for atrocities toward ethnic minorities. Sounds to me like many people are talking about it.

The CDC has age-adjusted data back to 1900, showing the annual rate of change.

The 2020 data will not final for several months.

The blip for 2019 dwarfs WWII.  So yes, that is the rate to judge by.

All projections seem to show we will not get that high, but 2020 should be in second place.

 This quote from the Associated Press that you posted   says covid 19 deaths  accounted for the increase in  the US mortality rate . Well, prior to the pandemic we were hearing of how many people die each day from overdose from substance abuse and suicide.  There are other sources that have questioned the inconsistencies in documenting covid 19 deaths . Alex Berensen who was a former NY Times reporter wrote several pamphlets abt covid 19 issues . Part 1 focused on the ways governments count and report Covid-19 deaths.

Looking at all  causes of  death in the last year is important in saving future lives . I would hope that the powers that be get back to seriously addressing these issues by providing more treatment centers , support groups and research into more effective

treatment modalities .
