1/1 New E. coli 0157 Outbreak linked to salads. 13 sick so far.

The CDC is investigating a new outbreak of the deadly E. coli 0157:H7. The outbreak involves salad from Simple Truth Organic Brand from Kroger and Nature's Basket Brand Organic Power Greens. The FDA has not posted a recall yet. There are 13 people from six states that have been infected. The first case goes back to November 27th. Patients range in age from 4 to 79. Four have been hospitalized and one developed hemolytic uremic syndrome, a severe type of kidney failure. The actual number of persons that became ill is thought to even larger than the number of confirmed cases. Some of the persons that became ill reported to CDC that they had used the greens in smoothies. The mix of greens consists of organic spinach, mizuna, kale, and chard. The salads have "Best if used by” dates through December 20, 2021.
