Never leave my front door w/o one. I live in a highrise community w/the mailboxes in the lobby, activities in the community room. Both places always have folks lingering around. All elevators have anti-bacterial soap at the entrance.
I Wear the mask when I go out & about too! I keep a spare mask in my glove department. Will do so until this flu season is over.
I have never had the flu nor ever gotten a flu shot. I don't fix what ain't broken. That being said, I am not taking any chances either. Reason why I have stocked up on my flu masks. CVS has them in their pharmacy section-FREE!
Becoming a snowbird in Hawaii is sounding pretty darn good right about now.

I saw someone in the grocery store with one on last week. My doctor's office has a sign saying that anyone with flu symptoms (or cold and/or cough) has to wear a mask. I took my father in with a cough, and they gave him one.

I saw on the news that a mask doesn't protect the wearer but does prevent him/her from transmitting the virus to others.

That's why a medical facility would ask you to wear one. It's so those sick with sneezing and coughing don't spread their germs. It's a good idea. When you check in and they review why you are there, a couple key words will get you one. Never can be too careful. It's serious when people are dying.

If the mask stops germs from going 'out' surely it will stop germs from going 'in' also!

Sounds like a good thing to do for those really concerned. I have my own stock pile from calling a hospital my 2nd home. I don't wear them as protection from germs, I wear them when I know I am going to be outside for awhile when the thermometer reads a double digit below zero number.
Also wear one in the fall when I mulch the leaves from our 200+ trees. When they are dry? The mulching blades create a dust storm and I prefer most of it to go on/into my mask, not in my already much damaged lungs.

A mask is only good as long as it has the proper fit and once used it cannot not offer the same amount of protection. The n95 respirators are the ones the CDC recommends for virus protection but you must get the correct size and they are not cheap.

It's sad to see so many children dying from the flu. You are smart for wearing the mask especially living in a high rise building.

I just went to CVS and they were sold out of masks....We take care of our grandchildren twice a week and if one doesn't have a cold the other does. On the news last night it said that people over 65, people with weakened immune systems and small children should be especially careful and at any signs of the flu should go to the doc and get tamaflu within 48 hours. Alwo they sugessted that pregnant woman may consider a prophylactic dose.
I know the news always seems to hone in on a particular issue and now it is the flu....but it still scares me
I will have to hunt down masks In Japan, many people wear them...a fashion statement

I bought the N95 at Ace Hardware and they were only $8 for two.
