@JeanLouiseFinch Crosstex fluid resistant earloop face masks. We bought them on Amazon. My hubby is a retired dentist so he knows a bit about them.

To really protect yourself from the flu, you would need a HazMat suit. Germs are everywhere and even on our clothing. If you get flu germs on your clothing, you could catch the flu that way easily. You could get the flu from merchandise, money or the mail. Some of these germs can live for 5 or 6 days.
The mask is helpful for someone who already has the flu so it doesn’t spread, but they too, would have germs on their hands and clothing.
There is no foolproof methods of protecting yourself, except avoiding people and places or wearing a HazMat suit.

This is my VOG mask on the plane.
It was comfortable and so I will continue to grab this for trips.

Neither DH or I fly a lot so it was hard convincing myself to spend $60+ on the VOG masks. Plus, they need to be such a precise fit for them to work. They don't get a good seal if the wearer has a beard. I opted for the Curad antiviral masks. Apparently they don't only block germies, they kill them too. Was it the best choice? Who knows. The Curad masks got a high review rating on Amazon and something is better than nothing so that's what we're going with and hoping they do the job.

Our masks were from Amazon and they were 32 no shipping; more comfortable than the ones from MD.
To each his own.
Plus, I did not get sick. A first in three years for me.

I spent five days with the flu in the contagion room in my hospital. Everyone who entered, doctors, nurses, etc., had to wear a mask, I didn't.

@LTT1- I should have clarified. The $60+ was for two masks.

I canceled two appointments already: doctor and opthamologist. I hated to do it as they were a while date. But I don't want to be in a doctor's office now, except if necessary. Same with ophthalmologist. I'm staying away from crowds and am retired.
There's no reason to be blaze' about it and throwing caution to the winds. Too many young people do that and are out and about with the flu and are uncaring about passing it around. Also, those going to work, up to the ears in medication, and giving it to everybody.
I haven't had the flu at a minimum of over 12 years, and I don't want it. I can't remember the last cold. I attribute it to lots of hand washing and staying away from those coughing and sneezing over everybody else.
Not only being sick as a dog with the flu, every sickness ages your body. I don't get hyper about it, but I think everyone should show caution.
