The texture balm is one WEN product I have never used, since I have relatively long, straight hair, and I've always figured that it was mostly for short hair.  However, I am seriously thinking of getting a very short haircut, a pixie style, as I am going to be retiring in less than a year, and shorter hair means less WEN needed, so hopefully I will be able to keep affording WEN even with a reduced income.  However, I have really straight, fine hair, and usually when it's short it clings to my scalp like a mushroom cap, or, to borrow a phrase from another hair product vendor on the Q, it's "cat hair".  I'm not sure that the WEN mousse will do enough to give my hair some lift and body, and am wondering if the texture balm would be the product to try.  Thanks in advance for any info anyone who has used this product can share!

hi! I have had the Texture Twist for a while now and I have short hair that is fine and limp. I find that a volumizing mousse works very well to add volume and a pomade like Texture Twist helps with making it look "piecey". However, TT doesn't add any shine. I am thinking you might want to try the Calista products. The one that you clap your hands together to work it. In fact, I am going to go find it and order some more for me. Lol By the way I just retired too.

Hi Camille, the texture balm was one of Chaz's first products, but it doesn't get talked about much. I know there are some Wenners who swear by it. I've never used it because when I asked Wen customer service about it, they said it worked best on thick/coarse hair (and my hair is baby fine).

Here are a few threads I found in the Wen 101 thread (page 2, message #19) which might be helpful: Texture Balm and Texture balm???? .

I do use Wen 613 mousse for my thin/fine, shoulder length hair and it really helps. -- The 613 mousse is the only product I have ever used which gave my limp hair some body without being sticky. For my second and third day hair, while I lose some of the va-va-voom factor, my hair still has more overall body from having used the mousse on the first day. -- I use the 613 mousse because it has the most concentrated amount of amino acids in it. It also has a shine ingredient that is not in most of the other mousses (though it may be in BGT & MIF, I'm just not sure).

Best of luck!!

Hi,Camille,  I don't have any tips for product  but others have given you some very good tips.  My question is, won't pixie short hair equal more trips to the salon for maintainance?  So would it really offset the cost of say a WEN TSV?  I love the look of Pixie cuts and hope yours comes out fantastic!

Thanks, everyone, it sounds like I might want to stick with the mousse and hope that does the job.  Candys Mine, you have a good point about needing more frequent haircuts, which might well eat up the savings on WEN from shorter hair.  I have been thinking about that, and haven't come to a firm decision yet.  I guess I am just thinking that, at 58+, I might need to consider a different hairstyle than the one I wore when I was in high school.  However, every time I do get a short haircut, it looks awful, and I have to deal with looking awful until I can get it grown out again.  WEN has made a huge difference in my hair, but it can't change the shape of my face and head, and I may just need to resign myself to long hair for the rest of my life if I don't want to look like a mushroom with eyes and a nose.Smiley Wink

Hey Camille P, Cheer up woman!  58 is Not the age of resignation, to your hairstyle or anything else!  It sounds like you have allready decided that short-short hair is not the style for you so don"t subject yourself to it.  You could keep your hair long just not AS long.  Go and look at hairstyles of the stars.  It's their business to look good in the public eye.  Some have the short thing going on but others have longer styles that you may find you want to try.  Start with the longer styles and work your way shorter.  Have FUN with finding your next new style!

Camille, if your hair still looks nice and you know how to style it then enjoy it! My mom is 69 and still has lovely shoulder length hair. It is fine and the style is simple, which suits her and doesn't require tons of styling. I don't think age, even with retirement, has to mean anything about your stylel! Another money saving approach might be to try to push your wash day back a day. So, if you are an every other day washer, maybe try every third day instead since you won't be going to work every day.

Just to be clear, I love a pixie! I kept my hair pixie short for years because of the style. Personally, I found it to be less time, but just as much effort because I care about hair. After my many hair lengths I just accepted that I am someone who is going to focus on her hair because I love it. I did have to use harder core products to make it look interesting because my hair is fine. I had a great stylist, so I only went to the salon about 4 times a year with mine because it could grow a bit longer without looking a mess. However, I had to have some thickening paste and a small flat iron for ends and some other things to keep it sharp. If you are a wash and go person it might be less time and money, but again for me it was just different.

Edited to add: having touched the texture balm and tried it on my ends, there is no way that would have worked for me with shorter hair. I'd have been greases pieces.

Yisbuff, that phrase is priceless, "greases pieces"!  LOL!  Yes, I will definitely stick with the mousse if I do decide to go short.  I could easily wash less often if I wasn't working, but until then, I need to wash every day, as I work in a laboratory, and I don't want to leave what I pick up in the lab every day on my hair or skin any longer than I have to, let alone sleep with it.  Thanks for weighing in!

Thank you, Candys Mine.  I could go with a short bob, but I actually need my hair to be long enough to pull back in a banana clip, as I work with Fisher gas burners (think "Bunsen burner on steroids) all the time, and my hair has to stay out of my face and not be vulnerable to getting lit on fire, so it has to be controlled by either a pony tail or clip.  So a chin-length bob, which would probably be flattering and fashionable, isn't practical.  Now in a year, if the bob hairstyle is still in, it might be the perfect change for me.  I think, since I am hankering for a change right now, that color is the way to go.  I have dark ashy blonde hair (I am actually a calico, I have black, platinum blond, brown, red and grey hairs in there) and green eyes, so auburn looks really good on me, and now that I use WEN, it will last and look beautiful instead of washing away in 4-6 weeks.
