WWF (Winter White Forest) scalp question

I pulled this out of the closet this morning since I've had it a while and popped the seal and used it today.

My scalp was on fire, I normally do not get this reaction to WEN, actually thinking about taking another shower to "shampoo" my hair.

Yes, I rinsed, rinsed, rinsed, have used Wen in some fasion since he was on the Q and follow him on FB.

Do you think it's old? Or, just to strong for me? I hate to toss a whole 32oz bottle  uggg  (Nobody I know will use it, they all know the claims and won't risk it)

Re: WWF (Winter White Forest) scalp question

Does it have a manufactured date on it?  And have you used that formula before?

While there is always the possibility it went bad, but I've never experienced anything like that.   Normally the older the product the less potent they are.

If you've never used WWF before, you might have had a reaction to the mints and menthol combination, which is the first thing I think of with that scent.

If it doesn't bother your hands, you can always use it as a hand soap.  I often do that with scents that are too strong for me.  Or use it in your laundry.

@geezerette  Just a bunch of numbers on the bottom but no date.

I have never use WWF before, this was my first time, I was sorta saving it for winter time, I just ran out of one of my fall scents so I thought I would bust open my WWF.

@SandGirl

I think that means it's been manufactured relatively recently since the older bottles had manufactured dates on them.  And since you have never used that particular scent before, I'd say some ingredient or combination of ingredients in it disagreed with you.

Re: WWF (Winter White Forest) scalp question

I have never had a reaction in the shower from any WEN CC, even those to which I am actually allergic, so I am not sure what's going on for you, @SandGirl .  I have a few questions for you that may be helpful in figuring out what's going on.  Since you just opened the bottle, did you put a pump in it, or did you just use the CC from the top of the bottle?  I know that WEN is pretty thick and homogenous, but since the bottle has been sitting, perhaps some of the more volatile ingredients, like menthol, might have migrated to the top of the bottle, and thus been more concentrated in the CC there.  That's not likely, but may be a slight possibility that would explain your reaction.  Secondly, since you've never used this formula before, read the ingredient list to see if you find something in it to which you know you are allergic.  I believe there is some sandalwood in it, and that can be a problem ingredient for people.  Finally, did you use the WWF as your first cleanse, or your second?  If you used it as a second cleanse and left it in your hair for quite some time, that allowed you to get longer exposure and more reaction.  You might be able to use it up as a first cleanse, then rinse it out and put a different formula into your hair and on your scalp for the second cleanse, that will remove whatever you are reacting to in the WWF, so you can use up that one 32oz bottle without having it go to waste, then just don't buy it again.  I hope you can use it up that way, as a first cleanse.  Good luck!

Re: WWF (Winter White Forest) scalp question

@SandGirl - I use WWF all year and have never had that kind of reaction. Is it possible you are allergic to one of the ingredients? Maybe the menthol is too strong for you?

I also use it as body wash, shaving cream.

Good Luck

@CamilleP   Its feeling better now and have calmed down some for sure. I always open my Wen and SHAKE it the best I can (normally hand it to my husband and he does the shake weight method LOL) and then I put in the pump once it all settled, I used for first/second and mixed with 613 for my leave in conditioner.

I could be sensiteve to Sandalwood or something else, it seemed find on my arms and legs. I did use the Wen Tonic over night like I usually do and was cleansing that out.  I'll give it another try when I wash next and maybe only use it as my first cleanse and see how it goes. The scent was nice, didn't think I would like the scent but I actually did (Since I don't care for Sandalwood scents)

I can use WWF, but it is one of the stronger ones for my scalp..(the only one I can't use is Lavender.)..If I use WWF, I have to mix only a small amount in with something else.

(I have some "really older bottles of Wen" no issues at all with any of them)

Re: WWF (Winter White Forest) scalp question

@SandGirl  I am glad your scalp is calming down, and I hope you can use it up as a first cleanse, and use something "tried and true", like Fig, which is very moisturizing and calming, as your second cleanse.  I am also not a sandalwood fan, and since WVM is still available, it is my far and away preferred Winter CC, so I am using up the last of my WWF, and won't buy it again, either. even though it's one of the few seasonals without honey in it, and thus one of the few I can use.  I like FGP and WVM way more, and will stick with them.
