I just reviewed a lot of these posts, and am both bumping for reminders and becuase I have some questions. For context, I didn't bother with the oils for my first Wen year and a half because I thought they were too expensive to include in my regimine. Well, they are certainly pricey, but they are worth every cent as it turns out!

I got the SOB oil this year - divine, great for my body skin. It seemed to not work as well on my face skin, but that was ok. I haven't even tried it on my hair because I am hoarding it. Just about 10 days ago (maybe more?) I decided to bite the bullet and get POM and MIF oils. Honestly, the POM smells like rosemary (fine, but not appealing) and the MIF smells like the memory of MIF CC in oil. i was a little disappointed, but whatever, scent is not actually the point since I got them for treatment.

I have used the POM on my face for 3 of 4 days, following @bebe777 suggestion about under eye circles. I didn't anticipate any results, so I haven't really been looking. This morning I was checking my pores in a magnifying mirror to see if I needed to do a face mask, and I just happened to notice how well rested I look. Wait WHAT?!?! I have travelled all month, been sick, had a work crisis, and watched every minute of both conventions while engaging in rigorous political discourse. Things have NOT been relaxing. HOW CAN THIS BE? Folks, it is the POM!!! I have genetic dark circles from the marvelous Italian side of my family, and they do not go away for any reason ... except, it seems, if I put POM on them a few times. WOW. I'm not saying my results are typical, but I am shocked and thrilled!! I will def be continuing.

Here is where my questions come in:

1. I got the MIF for hair in part for scent (oh well) and in part because it also has rosemary for growth. I am going to do an overnight tonight, but was wondering what the effect would be if I put on a thin showercap so I didn't leak. I know a lot of folks have no problem with oil getting everywhere, and maybe I won't either. I don't want to sleep on a towel because I don't want to rough my hair up. Oh, I guess I could also try getting some of those t-shirt sheets pillow cases so it is soft cotton. Anyway, the actual question is does anyone use those thin shower caps like from Sally's Beauty?

2. The TT and POM duo oils are available I'm bummed I didn't get the truly special deal, but oh well. Until one of you fine folks told me how I used TT wrong (thanks to you, I'm sorry I can't give proper attribution!), I thought I was allergic to it. Maybe I am not! So, I"m considering getting them for growth. The thing is, I have a cat who is all over me, and it is toxic to cats. So, any suggestions from cat folks on what you do? If the shower cap thing could work, then that might be a solution. If I can't come up with the solution I will just get more POM with the big and little combo and be just fine. Mslle Chatte is the queen of this home!

WHEW ~ that was a lot. TL;DR version is GET the POM, what do you think of thin, plastic shower caps for overnights.

Re: Benefits of Oils

[ Edited ]

@yisbuff2! Hi! First of all, I am so glad you've dipped your hands (and face) into wonderful WEN oils!

They are expensive! But not THAT expensive if you consider the quality and also compare price per ounce to the prices of similar, but not as good in my opinion oils, even from vendors on Q site.

In my first year I started to get into the WEN oils, mostly for hair treatments. I spent a lot! Slowly, I learned to control myself and wait for deals. My first great deal in oils was from last year Core TTV with 32 oz CC, oversized RTM, SC and of course - full size 4 oz oils! Only $64.92 for ALL!

Later on I was able to get full size seasonal oils in 3-piece kits, 319 oil, all at great prices and some even on A/D. Well, basically this is how I am going to proceed forward - buying oils at the time of excellent deals.

Thin plastic shower cap for overnight? Well, here is my idea on this subject. Hair follicle needs to breathe - we all know this, hair may start falling off when follicle is clogged up. Oil by definition does this already, and gets into follicle.

I remember, learning how to get a pesky tick out of my friend's skin - it was to pour any kind oil on it, the insect starts to suffocate and comes out by itself, backing up - because it can't breathe anymore! It came out very fast, this is what plain oil did to completely cut off air supply for this pest.

The other day I did an overnight oil treatment, and instead of cleansing next morning, I was bumming around the house for three days (!) and did not wash my hair, thinking I may get some "extra benefit" out of the prolonged oil treatment.

Well, I noticed some hairs falling into my hands as a result. Too long! Never again. Hair follicle needs to breathe.

When doing oil scalp treatment, maybe it's okay to use thin shower cap, maybe for awhile only, and not overnight, since this would close up the air flow to the scalp double time.

This is just my theory and it may be wrong. I will continue to do scalp oil treatments, making sure they only for a few hours or overnight, never longer. I also feel I do not need a plastic cap, because oil sips through the skin anyways and that's enough.

With re-moist treatment, I think cap is good. Hair benefits from extra heat while re-moist potion is on. I put cap on for about an hour or so, then take off for the rest of night.

@sonechko I completely agree with you on the VALUE! A friend of mine sells a line of oils I will not mention (a multi level thing that is completely legitimate and not a scam), and I contemplated trying them. She was kind enough to send a sample. This came around the time the SOB came. There was NO comparison. I am very good at pacing myself, so I will not go beyond my means, but I could not have imagined how different two oils that purport to have similar ingredients could be. I would always rather pay more for the better product that I can use less of than pay less, but more often. That is part of why I moved from a different brand that claimed to be a CC to Wen. Honestly, in the aggregate, I have saved money.

You make excellent points about the breathing scalp! I should have thought of that. Of course I should not cut off the flow of air to my hair & scalp. Skin is an organ after all. That would be quite silly. I guess if I have any secret stow away ticks it would help! Woman LOL

Thank you also for the advice about how to best use the oils. I think for my first go round I will just use my MIF for a few hours tonight. I just cleansed and am waiting for my hair to air dry. Once it is dry I will oil up and put it up. I will just wash it out before bed to get started. That will probably be 7 hours anyway, which is pretty much a nights sleep for me. Then I can just know how the process works.

As always, I so appreciate your feedback! I hope you are doing well otherwise!

@yisbuff2 I'm glad the POM oil is already working so well for you!

Unless you apply way too much oil and don't get it worked into your scalp/hair well enough I don't think you should have any problems with oil running everywhere. I usually apply the oil a couple of hours before I go to bed but I do still put a towel over my pillow that night, just in case.

Regarding the TT oil and cats, I haven't really had any problems with that. My cats occasionally like to sleep on my lap even if I have TT oil in my hair. One of them loves to lick you so I just make sure she doesn't get to do that if I have TT oil on me.

@HSB1204 thank you for the feedback about the cats! I appreciate that. She isn't the kind to crawl around my head at night, but I will use it during the day just in case if I get it. She definitely won't lick my head in the day! She will instead be baking her fluffy tush on the porch! LOL.

Thanks also for letting me know about the oil staying in place! Quick question - have you found any meanignful improvement in your hair growth or thickness from using TT specifically? Or just from using oil in general?

TIA!

@yisbuff2 Yeah, I keep my cats out of the bedroom at night. I don't think I'd get any sleep if they were in there! Cat Wink My one cat is very friendly. If she can lick your face or hands, she will. I've been working at home quite a bit lately so I have three office cats with me in the day time. They get very insulted if I kick them out in case I have a meeting. Cat Tongue

I definitely think the TT oil has made the most difference for me. Whenever I've been using the TT oil I see new little hairs sticking up. My hair always grows extremely slow so I don't see any real difference to my length but I definitely feel like I have more hair since I started using the TT oil. Cat Happy I know Chaz started saying that the POM oil is good for hair growth too but the scent is just way too sweet for me.

@FleaMktQn You are wonderful, and I replied to you via email. WOowOo! The microfiber yoga towel idea is genius! I will have to look for those. They are the same idea as a turbie towel, right? I definitely got oil on my pillowcase last night, but it is 100% cotton so I will just wash it. I have a barrier case around my actual pillow, and then put a pillow case on top of that, so my pillow is fine.

I also realize after my first attempted cleanse that I used WAY TOO MUCH oil last night! LOL. I am still kind of a grease ball. I will workout, then wash it out later. Thank goodness there is no such thing as over cleansing with Wen because hooooooo weeeeee I'm greasy. LOL. What was really nice those is that the smell concentrated as the night wore on (I wake up 2-4 times a night always) and it was LOVELY.

@HSB1204 that should have been my plan with Sunny from the beginning, but alas ~ she is now 20 and I let her do whatever she wants. Cat SurprisedCat Very Happy LOL. I realized this morning too that her wake up love involves clawing me in the scalp. Definitely no overnights with the TT, but otherwise she won't get near it.

Thanks for the resuls regarding TT!! @FleaMktQn is going to connect me with some TT. I'm afraid of the smell! Haha. If it works I am so going to try it though. My hair is already growing faster since Wen, so while I'd be happy if it grew even faster, that is not really my goal. My goal is to activate any follicles that are sleepy. More hair is always my goal. Even just looking like more hair, which styling does, works. More actual hair would rule.

ETA: I think the POM smells totally like rosemary. Noses are so unique and weird! Smiley Happy

@yisbuff2 Yes, don't break kitty's habit when she's used to it! Mine do get pretty mad if they think I'm sleeping too long when I should be getting up to feed them. They'll start banging on the door or jumping up to grab the door knob and then sliding down the door until I get sick of it and a) let them in or b) get up and feed them. Cat Very Happy The human slaves must be controlled! Cat LOL

The TT oil definitely has a strong scent and it takes some getting used to. Sometimes I've added some 613 oil to my ends just to cut down on the strong TT scent.
