Went from Michigan to Denver and stayed for 3 days, mountains fab!  Then went to Reno on the train, and stayed for 2 nights, then back to Salt Lake City for 3 nights.   Beautiful land we live in!   Had a roomette and was fine with it!   As long as I could nap!

I love the train.   I've made several trips from Alabama to NYC as well as Alabama to New Orleans.    I hope to branch out after I am retired next year and take a trip out west.

You didn't have to take off your shoes, be patted down, all the employees are so friendly and helpful.    The food in the dining car is excellent.   I must be an old soul, I do love to travel on the train, too.

So glad you enjoyed

Re: took an Amtrak vacay!

Such a great way to relax and see the country, mountains, wild mustangs, rivers, etc.  No stress!

Last year we took the train from Windsor to Ottawa, then to Quebec City, back to Montreal and then home.  Loved Canada Via Rail!

I love taking the train too. I used to think I would need a book to pass the time but I never read it because I like just watching the scenery go by.  Sounds like a great trip!

Trains in USA are not good (compared to Europe and China).  I love trains but would do Canada before USA (probably within the year).

Our family has taken the Amtrak several times...Arizona Iowa, Chicago, Pittsburgh, New York, New Orleans, etc.  We love it.  Only problem we encountered..we slepted in in regular part of train (not sleeper) which was fine with us, however was cold.  But we just brought blankets.  So just be aware of this issue.

My husband and I traveled extensively through Europe, mostly France, for over 20 years. We always went by train. The high speed trains, TGV, are absolutely fantastic. You can travel from city to city in no time. I SO wish we had these trains in the US. We really missed the boat...or should I say train...on this one.

I grew up taking all types of public transport, but I especially love trains.  I have gone on several vacations by train, but I always wish that I took a plane home.  Once I am ready to go home, I want to get there quickly.  Unfortunately, I generally have too much stuff to bring back on a plane.

The next time that I hear salt and ice together, it better be in a margarita!

DH and I love the trains.  As others have said Europe is much better at this than we are.  Wish Americans would give up their "love affair" with their cars.  Having said that, there is a LOT of room for improvement on Amtrak.  Roomettes are expensive but sleeping in their regular seats beats airlines by a longshot.  The trains need updaing but obviously that is not a priority as long as Americans are wedded to their cars.
