Washington DC in late spring

[ Edited ]

We have been to DC a few times and have seen all the museums except the new Africian American History Museum. BTW, tickets are available the first Wed of the month you want to attend.

We are going to repeat many attractions and are looking for some new ideas. For a new one, we will see a performance at Fords Theatre. Nationals are in town so that is planned too.

I did not know about the water taxi to Alexandria Va. Is the drive to Annapolis managable on a weekend day?

A few years ago we found a weekend market--Eastern Market I think?

How about a tour of the White House?  If you contact your Congressman about three weeks in advance you may be able get approval in time.

Old Town Alexandria is a fun place to walk around

Hillwood is a nice decorative arts House and Garden

Dunbarton Oaks?  also supposed to be nice

then there is always Georgetown, crowded but just a fun vibe

Yes , we did this with the children years ago. For those planning to ask for passes, don't forget the House gallery, and the State Department tour is interesting too.

Re: Washington DC in late spring

The drive to Annapolis should be manageable on a weekend as long as it isn’t some sort of holiday or special event (i.e., at the Naval Academy) weekend.

The water taxi to Old Town Alexandria is great, especially on a nice day. It’ll drop you off right at the Torpedo Factory, which is full of various artists’ studios. There are several great restaurants right at the dock, but Old Town’s full of great restaurants within easy walking distance from the dock (not to mention some great little shops). If you’re in Old Town on Saturday morning, there’s a great farmers market at City Hall Square on King Street - about a 5 minute walk from the Potomac. Although it’s called a farmers market, there are craft-type vendors in addition to farmers. Check out the City of Alexandria’s website at www dot alexandriava dot gov for more information at the time you’ll be visiting.

It’s always fun to go to a Nats game. Nats stadium is a very fan-friendly stadium. The ushers and other employees are very nice and eager to help fans. If you’re going to a game in the Spring, be sure to bring a warm jacket if it’s a night game. It can get pretty chilly once the sun goes down, especially when you’re sitting still. Also, be sure to check the Nats’ website for items that are not allowed in the stadium. The food at the stadium is very good, but there are a lot of restaurants within an easy walk outside the stadium. If you’re rooting of the opposing team, it’s okay to wear one of their hats or shirts to the game. Our area continues to be home to transplants from other American cities, so it’s common to see folks rooting for their home teams.

Washington is beautiful in the Spring. Enjoy your visit!.
