That's terrible,

I only mail checks now for property taxes and I do it inside the post office.  But I'm thinking of starting to pay them online even tho I fear that might be less safe.  To pay my garbage and local taxes I can drop the check off at her house -  I may start doing that.

We have been paying bills and doing other financial work online for decades with never a problem.  I feel it is far safer than the mails.

In New York, we still have those olive-green storage mailboxes.  In fact, there is one right across the road from me.  I often see the mailman opening it up and putting mail in it toward the end of the day.  I guess when it is time to quit, and there is still some mail, it is left in the storage box.

Same here just never my property taxes.  And I believe they charge extra for this.

I had two replacement drivers licenses never make it to my mailbox. A week or two after the second was "lost" the old mail carrier disappeared and now we have two who alternate. Since the old carrier left I now think I am getting my mail.

Thefts from boxes also an issue here.  Instructed to go inside and mail.

Did have an interesting experience this week.  We had a substitute maul carrier. DH noticed him driving really quickly through subdivision.  Later in day while out in yard he saw large envelope pkg from Kohl's addressed to someone not in immediate area sitting on curb.  It had been a USPS delivery.   The next day regular carrier back and I gave it to him.  He was shocked and I assured him I knew he didnot do.  He's dependable.  Think how often this happens.
