@SANNA Oh, didn't know he did more than recommend the B&B's or very, very small hotels. Good to know! Thanks.

 Rick Steve's has free downloads (Apple, Amazon) for self guided tours.  We have used these extensively in Vatican, Forum etc.

When I am on vacation I prefer smaller, boutique hotels and B&B anyways. The big places always remind my of the business trips. Only twice I stayed at big places, due to the specificity of the cities. London - "Royal Horse-guards", Barcelona " Avenida Palace". Both great,but expensive.

@World Traveler,

I like lonely planet and also have found useful information in TripAdvisor regarding logistic issues as how to get from London to Oxford. I also think that the reviews/ opinions are quite honest🌻

I am a big fan of Michelin Guides.  I like the layout and how they give you suggestions for 1 day trips, 3 day trips, 5 day trips, etc.

Then I go to TripAdvisor to refine the logistics.

For food, I rely on Yelp.
