First of all, thank you for your post. I think you have done all of us a service by sharing what happened to you when you were "sold" a seemingly interesting proposition.
A phone salesperson took advantage of you and the full ramifications of saying "yes" were not clear.
I wanted to to post the website of the Nevada Attorney General:
http://ag.nv.gov/About/Consumer_Protection/Bureau_of_Consumer_Protection/
They do not assist in individual cases but they may be able to direct you to information regarding Nevada Consumer Protection Laws, including who has jurisdiction in a multi-state phone sale.
I think you were asking if someone on this forum may have experienced your situation and had money refunded. I did not see an answer. Perhaps your unfortunate incident may benefit others by making you our expert. I hope you continue to keep us informed of your progress.
Good luck!

My late mom always told me that there is no such thing as a free lunch.
I miss her.

Oh, thank you @rrpell. That's exactly what I was asking. I did appreciate most of the responses anyway, though. I guess it's human nature for some to want to tell you you did a stupid thing and they don't understand how I could do it without research first, etc. That's ok. I know how these forums work, lol.
But you are right on point and I guess no one else has had this experience. Oh, one poster said she got her card credited. I'm going to explore that link you gave. Thanks so much.

@Mmsfoxxie wrote:@Eileen in Virginia, that's the logical thing to do but I can't go alone. It has to be husband and wife and right now he's not going. I had forgotten that he went to one before I met him and hated it. We have a year to go so, if I can't cancel it, maybe he will change his mind. Looking at the hotel that we would be staying in, it's not the best. I can't recall the name right now but it's has a casino in it. Trip Advisor reviews are hit and miss.

Sorry, I didn’t realize you had to go as a couple. In reading to the end of this thread, I see that you’ve contacted your cc company and they’ve removed the charge pending investigation. So far, so good. It’s interesting that the time share rep didn’t start recording your conversation until you finally agreed to attend the sales pitch (so there’s no record of the multiple times you declined before they mentioned Vegas). Make sure your cc company knows about your multiple declinations. I’m not a big social media person, but have you considered contacting one of your local television consumer advocate reporters if your cc company decides against you? Around here it would be someone from (Channel) 7 On Your Side. They frequently succeed when others can’t. Good luck! I hope you get your money back so you can enjoy your trip to Vegas.

One of the instructors at my gym has 4 or 5 timeshares at different golf communities (plus they live in a golf community). That's a lot of golf for retired people! Her husband passed away and she visited all of them and spread some of his ashes as each. She doesn't golf anymore. I know she had her lawyer look into selling them at one point.
I have another friend who has a camping timeshare and one who has a timeshare in Vegas that they use some years and trade. The Vegas and Disney ones are pretty easy to trade from what I understand.

We owned 4 timeshares at one time, all bought when we were young. Sold two and still own two. We enjoyed the timeshares for many years and saw places I never thought I would ever go. However, as we have gotten older and health issues interfere, the timeshares have become an expense with no return for the money. Every year there are fees for maintenance, taxes, trading, RCI or other trading companies. The cost does not end with your initial purchase.
Timeshare companies prefer to sell to married couples. If your husband won't attend the meeting they will probably end up charging you for the stay. They will tell you it will be ninety minutes, but they always last about 2 and 1/2 hours, so be prepared.
i agree with others who said deal with your credit card company, not with the timeshare organization. Always remember that nothing is ever really 'free'.

Thanks so much for these comments everybody. I'm learning a lot from your experiences.
Right now, the charge has been removed but I was told by Captal One that depending on the investigation, it might be replaced. I'm resigned to paying for my mistake.
Right now, I feel that if we go on the trip I'd be putting good money after bad because, although, the vacation would be 'free', there is airfare, food and entertainment, not to mention knowing hubby isn't enjoying it. The initial $199 is supposed to be returning after attending the presentation.

I too had and have a Timeshare story but will try to be brief. My parents brought their timeshare in 1983 (3 weeks) when they retired. For the first 30 years everything was wonderful I used it a lot anywhere I wanted to travel and so did my parents but as they got older they couldn't use it at all so I did, the annual maintenance fees were not bad at first but eventually started to go up where it was ridiculous. The past 5 or more years I tried to sell it but was scammed for about $500, then the home office invited me to one of those weekend things to talk to someone and I specifically told them I'm not interested in buying or any type of presentation. Of course that's exactly what happened. Right now I am in the process of just giving it back to them in exchange for all the unpaid maintenance fees we owe. I too feel at this time that it's more trouble than it's worth but I did enjoy it once upon a time but you should try to cancel and get your money back.
After I'm gone I know my kids, niece, and nephews will not keep up with this and I wouldn't blame them one bit.

The Stratosphere is on the Strip but a casino we rarely go to. The view of the Strip from their tower is nice and they have a nice, cheap wedding package (we attended a friend's wedding-- now they are divorced). I'm sure the rooms are OK but probably nothing special.
