Re: Time Share Presentations

We sat through a timeshare demonstration which was very high pressured.  When we repeatedly said no, we were insulted and ridiculed...told that they had our credit card number, and would consider charging us for the trip which we had taken "in bad faith". What a nightmare!  Call your credit card company.

Re: Time Share Presentations

I won't divulge any personal info or what company I work for, but I'm a timeshare mystery shopper and I've done one in Las Vegas, San Diego, Sedona, Oregon, etc.  They estimate 10% of all the people who purchse these vacation week-ends  buy a timeshare -- that leaves 90% that don't.  Some salespeople can be very aggressive.  It's a great way to get a low cost hotel room if you have about 90 min. or 2 hours of your time.

Re: Time Share Presentations

This is my experience.  Please try to cancel even if you lose your $199.  We did this many years ago and because they kept harping at us how wonderful a timeshare would be, over and over and trying to tempt us, we finally caved and bought it.  We were told we could use that week and go to any timeshare in the country.  So we thought wow that would be fun.   OK here is what happened.  You pay a yearly maintenance fee which started out as a small (about $100 something). Then every year it went up to finally over $300.  We never used the timeshare in 15 years or more.  Because we chose the last week in November and I used to put my Christmas deco up that week so I didn't want to leave.  But, we could never get another week to trade with someone.  So, it never got used.  Also understand that this is yours after death, so your family will inherit this.  They will be stuck paying your yearly fee.  We decided to sell and that was a joke.  Everyone took our money and didn't do anything.  Then when we finally found someone (and I checked the BBB) we paid $4,000 to sell.  It's a scam.  But they sold it and I would have paid anything to get rid of this thing.  I feel it's more trouble than paying full price to go on a vacation.  WE were suckers and we know it.  Sorry for the length of this.

@fthunt, and @dex, I can't call the credit card company until it's out of pending status, unortunately.  Also unfortunate. if true, these types of charges cannot be disputed, so I read.  I'm going to call anyway when it leaves pending mode.

@Mmsfoxxie Call the credit card company now and tell them not to accept the charge. This can be done especially if you have the company name and the total fee.

@Eileen in Virginia, that's the logical thing to do but I can't go alone.  It has to be husband and wife and right now he's not going.  I had forgotten that he went to one before I met him and hated it.  We have a year to go so, if I can't cancel it, maybe he will change his mind.  Looking at the hotel that we would be staying in, it's not the best.  I can't recall the name right now but it's has a casino in it.  Trip Advisor reviews are hit and miss.

@luvmybeetle, Wow!  I guess that's why so many people call it a scam.  OMG!

@Mmsfoxxie   DH & I have been through this several times over the years. The last time being about 8 years ago!!

First of all you can absolutely call your credit card company & have them reject the charge!! I did it.

Second of all these time share presentations are a nightmare. We have been cursed out & degraded for refusing to buy. They have refused to give us the promised “rewards” for attending the presentations!! Once they refused to drive us from the presentation site back to our hotel. We were literally stranded for several hours until someone finally allowed us on the shuttle.

Run don’t walk.Get far away from these nut jobs!!  Timeshare is not a good deal for the consumer. There are too many restrictions & it costs to much!!

DH was the one who wanted to attend “a quick 2 hour presentation for a freebie “. It was never that simple!! Lesson learned!!

Re: Time Share Presentations

OMG, @NicksmomESQ.  Cursed at?  How awful, not to mention unprofessional.  I hope you wrote a review somewhere like TripAdvisor.

The charge is still in the pending stage and I have to wait until it's an actual charge before I can dispute it.  Already tried, lol.

Thanks so much for giving me hope @Nicksmo.  Yesterday, I called the company to cancel and they refused.  I said to the lady...."so I suppose that if we don't go, I've just given you $200".  She says very matter of factly, "yes, ma'am".  I also read that out of all the people that attend these presentations, only 10% sign up.
