I do not travel via airplane very often so I am not sure of what to expect.   If I wear slacks, a sleeveless cami and a barefootdream long cardigan on the plane, do I have to take off the cardigan so that TSA can see my body more clearly?

Even if the cami was a nicer style rather than something I use to keep my torso warm, I would not want to take the cardigan off.

I just want to be prepared, thanks!

You most likely will have to take your sweater off.  Usually any type of jacket/sweater or blazer needs to be removed and put in the bin that goes through the xray machine.

LindaSal is right - you'll just have to put it in the bin to go thru the xray machine while you walk thru the metal detector.  Be prepared to take your shoes off as well so slip ons of some kind are easiest.  Once it's your turn it goes pretty quickly so you're only without it for a couple of minutes.  Enjoy your trip! Yes you'll have to take the cardigan off...I would suggest wearing something that you are comfortable wearing alone.

Back in April when I went to Florida, I was one of those who was randomly chosen for a pat down (it seems that they choose a lot....every few people).

The TSA agent wanted me to lift my top so she could see my waistband. (this in in Philly....they have a terrible attitude there).  I was annoyed but told her fine to do what she had to do.  By not giving her any problems I was able to get through quickly.

Since I was by myself I had my eyes glued on my belongings which had gone through security.  I had to go back to Florida in May and I decided to fly first class....everything was a breeze & less stressful incuding going through security.

I also plan on applying for Pre-check before I have to fly again.  It's less stressful and faster.

Since I first started flying from WA back to CA, except for the first time, I've always been designated Pre-Check. It's nothing I've applied for.

Except for the first non pre-check time, I've never had to take off my shoes or jacket. Maybe I was just lucky.

If you have TSA Pre-Check you do not have to remove your sweater, coat, jacket or shoes.  It's worth it to me to have paid the cost for signing up for pre-check because there are other benefits beside having to strip down and go barefoot on yucking flooring.

@haddon9   Yes, definitely get TSA pre-check.  A definite bargain if you even fly once a year.  A lot less hassle. AND yes, fly first class if you can.  Again worth every penny!
