Re: Southwest Airlines Announces Updates to Cancelled Flights

I don't want a credit, I want a refund. And the airlines are blowing smoke. I have $3200 in airline tickets that I discovered simply by signing on to check my flights, have been canceled for travel in July. No notice, just canceled.

It is impossible to get in touch with anyone, they will not talk to you if you are not traveling within the next 10 days which is ridiculous when you are trying to get a refund. I have learned a lot of lessons in this process and I am a very seasoned traveler.  I can't imagine what other folks are doing.

Re: Southwest Airlines Announces Updates to Cancelled Flights

Interesting.   I just checked and never received an email from Southwest.  The only recent message from them is my cancellation for my Florida trip on March 31.

I was told that my credit would be good for up to June of next year when I spoke with someone but I wish I had gotten the email.  Will have to see if my brother got one.

Re: Southwest Airlines Announces Updates to Cancelled Flights

I got the SW email and am happy with what they decided, e.g, extending any credits until September 2022.

BTW, we cancelled flights on United and American and have received refunds from both of them.  I would have been satisfied with a credit but we took the money.  And we had no problems talking to a real person who, in each case, were polite, professional and helpful.

My next door neighbor has been stuck in AZ due to SW airlines. She thought she'd have a flight home a week later. Due to the virus outbreak, SW airlines stated her first flight would be June 1st, but now that may be doubtful.

In the meantime, her niece is checking on her two felines and I'm checking on her home and taking care of her emerging flowerbeds (which is a pleasure).

My neighbor is staying with her daughter, SIL and her grandsons. She's having a lovely visit, but it's becoming far too long for everyone in one home when unable to do normal things and go places for lunch/dinner and fun.

Re: Southwest Airlines Announces Updates to Cancelled Flights

I didn't get an email either but I heard about this yesterday and quickly googled.  I had been told that I had to use my credit by February, 2021 which wasn't going to work for me since the trip I cancelled was for April.  I wouldn't want to travel in February knowing how Chicago weather usually is during that month.

I cancelled my trip on March 16th after getting more and more concerned about what I was hearing about this virus.

I would have preferred a refund because of the category (Wanna Get Away) that I booked, a refund wasn't an option.

I didn't get this e-mail either and this isn't what the SW website says.  They should update that.

When I canceled my flight on April 2, 2020, my e-mail stated I had to use my voucher by January 3, 2021 which was 1 year from the date I booked my flight.  Today I went to the SW website and it states that they have extended the Voucher period and my Voucher now expires June 30, 2021.

I had a United flight that I canceled as well and initially my Voucher also stated it had to be used by January 3, 2021 but now the United website states the Voucher is good for 24 months from the original date of issue.

As an aside, I should have waited out United because I would have gotten a refund.  I canceled when my cruise was canceled.  However I have since found out that my flight to Floriday on 4/27 was changed after I canceled it.  Because of the change, which resulted in a long layover in Chicago instead of a direct flight, it wouldn't have worked for me which means I could have gotten a refund.  I may contact them anyhow and see what they say.

Re: Southwest Airlines Announces Updates to Cancelled Flights

@Lipstickdiva, that's strange.  When I cancelled with Southwest on March 16, 2020, I was originally told that my credit had to be used by February, 2021 which would be a year from my original booking.

Last week, although I didn't get an email, I read somewhere that SW was extending credits.  I checked my account and it had not been given yet but there was a notice above saying it would be extended to 2022.  I just looked and I've been extended from February, 2021 to September, 2022!  So that's an extra year and a half extension.  My original trip would have been April 25, 2020.  I'd prefer a refund but, I'll accept that.
