Planning our trip to Savannah GA for the end of October. Is it still summer type weather there? Hot/humid? I figured I could pick up some lightweight clothing now on sale. By fall, only winter clothes in the stores.

Thanks

I have been there in Oct, it was lovely, still fairly warm. I would say long pants with lightweight tops, nothing very heavy and of course a jacket. We took the trolley tour of the city, highly recommend, and drove over to Tybee Island.

@Shanus, love Savannah.  Have fun.  I agree with @Shelbelle on the clothing.  LM

We went to a cooking school in Savannah in late October. It was still hot and humid. Be sure to go to a musical show at the Savannah Theater. We saw a wonderful 50s tribute.

@Shanus

Savannah in October!  Love It!   Nice time to visit this lovely city.

We go each MAY to a business conference and stay at The Westin across from River Street.

Average HIGH  temperature in October is 77 degrees.  The average temperature is 67degrees. Plan for coolish weather but also plan for warmish weather too.

An umbrella can be a good thing to have available in Savannah.  <G>

Do not try to wear *heels*  out and about, many streets and sidewalks  are very old with cobblestones and uneven pavement.

Lots of  GREAT  places to dine,  *The Olympic Cafe is Greek  and next to the HYATT on River Street.   *Tubby's TankHouse on River Street has wonderful food.  *The Pink House is more dressy and requires weeks ahead reservations but worth the trouble!  *Lady&Sons is Paula Deen's place and has great Southern style food.  *Mrs.Wilkes Boarding House is wonderful, at these two places be prepared  to stand in line.  You can check these places out online of course.  These are just on the top of my brain and have never failed to deliver excellent food and service.  If you go to TUBBY'S, request the outside deck seating that overlooks the river/River Street  and is quite magical. Tubby's is UPstairs but they do have an elevator available if needed.

ENJOY!

Keep Calm and Travel On,

I live in Savannah.  October is the perfect time to visit since the humidity will not be uncomfortable and the temps will be low 80s.  Do pack an umbrella.  Afternoon thunderstorms pop up quick but does not last long.

I loved Savannah. I stayed at the Mansion on Forsythe Park.  They had cooking classes there at the restaurant but I wasn't there when they had a class.

@Shanus  I live in Savanah.  No need for winter clothing in October. A lightweight jacket at most.  We are typically still in the 80's but without the opressive himidity we suffer with all summer.

Please be safe and don't venture off the beaten path at night.   Gang crime has overtaken our beautiful city and a recent shooting in popular City Market over the 4th had visitors checking out and leaving early, and many planned visits were cancelled.  It makes me sad to see our gracious, charming, Savannah suffer.  There is so much to see and do and taste!  Oh, we have the best food.

It's a beautiful city but this blight has ruined a lot of fun plans for many unsuspecting visitors and it's certainly affecting our tourist industry.  Police and city officicals are working diligently, but a previous corrupt police chief and city officials turned a blind eye for many years.  It will take some time to clean things up so just be aware of your surroundings at all times.

Thanks for the heads up! That is a scary situation for sure. City Market is one of the "must sees" in my tour book for restaurants and shops. Stay away at night or skip at all times. I've been watching Southern Charm Savannah to get a feel for the city. Seems similar to Charleston (we've visited there many times)  but less fancy.  Living in NC, we're certainly familiar w/ the heat/humidity & that's why waited to make plans in October.

Evening restaurants as dressy as Charleston? Was told to wear sneakers/comfie shoes because of cobblestone streets, too.

@ShanusDefinitely think comfort.....not sloppy comfort, but comfort.  Some restaurants do not allow flip flops (thankfully) and none (except at Tybee) allow swimsuits - and even then you need a cover up of some sort.

There are a few restaurants with a dress code, but it should be pretty obvious which ones do.  You should be fine with comfortable.  The streets downtown are hard to navigate, especially River Street which is cobblestones.   You should be fine to visit City Market . It really is delightful and lots of great restaurants there.  Just be "aware".
