People Over 70 Exempt From New European Visa Fee!

Glory Be!  Under 18 and over 70 don't pay the 7 euro visa fee that begins in 2024. Google: ETIAS Visa 2024

Doesn't affect me in the least.  After traveling for the past 50+ (so glad we did it when we were young and the world was safer) we have no intention of ever going overseas again.

Re: People Over 70 Exempt From New European Visa Fee!

@kaydee50 Many years ago when a financial advisor and I were trying to project a long-term spending plan, we trimmed what used to be a generous travel budget.  I still remember his exact words:  "A very limited percentage of people over 80 travel extensively."  Here I am!  I wish I'd seen a few more places in Europe but that;s beyond me for lots of reasons.

Where would I go if I were younger, had better balance and could see distances better--  my family is all in the US, but by the time I get to an airport and fly, getting there is an all-day ordeal for me. My only surviving sibling will turn 80 next year -  I want to celebrate with his family.  Fingers crossed here.

The application process sounds like a much bigger PITA than the small fee.

I had discussed a bit of travel next spring with my brother to the UK.  I turn 70 at the end of May.

@haddon9    I don't believe the UK is part of this since they exited the EU in 2020.

Wow, we get to keep about $7.70 in our pockets.

I appreciate this, but if you can afford to travel, this little bit of money isn't going to save the day.

I wish the Visa process was easier and the Passport process was less expensive and faster.

Good to know but travel, especially airline travel, has become so dicey with so many hoops to jump through that it's not likely foreign destinations will be on my agenda at this point.

Seems unfair to me.  Why not just set a rate and charge all of us the same?  Paperwork and checking on age is costly and time consuming--just avoid it.  Why should age affect this?
