While selling Plow and Hearth today, Carolyn Gracie mentioned she rents a beech home down in Pawleys Island. Has anyone been there ? Is it nice? It appears to be around 45 minutes south of Myrtle Beach. I have to wonder if it is quieter and less populated than Myrtle Beach. Are there motels ? How are the beaches?

My family and I stay on the north end of Myrtle Beach which is quieter. We also stay in a hotel on a massive amount of property which makes it much less populated. Pawleys Island is more peaceful. It's very pretty with nice shops and great restaurants. I happen to love Myrtle Beach so maybe I'm biased!

@Reever

It's significantly less populated and much more laid back than Myrtle Beach!

Pawley's Island is a quiet place, a few shops along side the road with major residences off the highway. You could easily drive by it, but I believe it's a lovely, upscale, quiet place by the water. I don't get the impression it wants to be more than that.

@Reever - I'm just north of PI which is a quieter part of the South Strand. Beaches are nice, less crowded, not much to do unless you plan on playing a round of golf.

What exactly are you looking for in a vacation? Summers are extremely hot and humid and hurricane season starts in June and runs through November 30.  There will always be traffic in the height of tourist season, restaurants always crowded.

My best friend and her husband bought a condo there approximately fours years ago.

They live in KY and love going there on vacations, etc.

Are there any coffee shops or restaurants in Pawleys Island ? Looking for a quiet place with a small town and access to the beach. Need a motel, restaurants, coffee house. Just plan to lounge around for 3 days in June.
