I've been to Paris a number of times.  We've splurged a few times on our own and have also been on tours with package hotels.  Our most recent trip was last December and we stayed at  Mercure Paris Centre Tour Eiffel.  Needless to say, a view of the Eiffel Tour was prominent.  The hotel had a great location (15th arrondissement) and convenient to the Metro.  It was lovely and very reasonable.
