I'm a very nervous flyer. I was crying this weekend. When checking in, a person was ahead of me with a locked suitcase and he wanted to take it on board. They told him no because of the weight.he checked it. He fit the description of what the plane bombers looked like, had a green passport and hardly spoke English. I was freaked out, but had to get home.
Please tell me what you do or if you care if you saw this person? I realized I have to trust security screenings. This airport ssecurity didn't check my food like 2 others have, so that also made me uneasy. I'm not racist, I'm just full of anxiety.

My daughter is the world’s worst flyer but she wants to visit her sister in Orlando and she loves to vacation in places that require a flight. Her doctor prescribes a low dose Xanax to take the edge off the anxiety. It helps.

Vivian is right! I had to medicate for many years to get on a flight and that was before 9/11. Needless to say I was even worse after that. After roughly 20 years of valium before boarding I am finally able to fly without it. I also travel more now and I think it tends to get easier the more you are familiar with the experience. It is a phobia so there is nothing wrong with you! Best of luck, if you want to go places and see the country or the world you have to fly

@adamlambert, if I may, things happen over which we have no control. To experience life, you have to act. To not act, means you're going to miss a lot of life going on around you. It's making that decision. Life is a 50/50 chance.
When my dad was house bound, he was just existing, that wasn't living. He passed at 90. Please live your life while you can.
Edited to add: Chances are, the majority of things you fear, up until now, haven't happened. Please don't let fear stop you from living.

I completely understand. I am also a very nervous flier. I have flown many times but only twice since 2001. In 2007 I flew to Toronto on business. I do not take any kind of medications but my husband forced me to go to the doctor and get Xanax to take before the flight up and back. While it helped I still shook from the time I got on the plane until we landed going and coming. It's awful but I simply can't help it. I am not a nervous or anxious person. I simply detest to fly. I haven't flown since that trip and I probably won't ever fly again.

I can fly for free anywhere in the world anytime I want to go.
DH is a Capt. For AA.
I absolutely hate to fly. Didn’t used to but things changed. Now my doctor always asks when I see him if I am going anywhere because he gives me meds. I don’t like it and they don’t really help because I am so phobic.
DH tries to give me all the statistics and logic blah blah blah...doesn’t help.
It takes me a long time to get into the mode, for a vacation because of this. Sad because I could literally fly to Paris for dinner if I wanted. (DH has tried to tempt me with that)
Oh well...

thanks for the responses! Birdie gal, I'm assuming your husband has absolute faith in the screenings at the airport? He would really have no idea of the people on board.

Praying helps me.

He does have the always updated “no fly list”and a list with pictures of known and suspected terrorists. As far as having absolute faith with the screening process?
Well....That is TSA. Crew and TSA don’t always get along. So there’s that.
He is an FFDO and that is added security right there. Plus there are Air Marshals on so many flights and that is added security. He always knows when they are on board. After many years flying I recognize them when I see them.
DH is always up front when passengers board so he can greet them. But that is not the only reason. If he even suspects something is “off”with someone, that aircraft won’t leave the ground until things are straightened out.
