1. African safari. We started in CapeTown, traveled to Victoria Falls and then stayed in Krueger National Park for the safari. Unbelievable experience. I still pinch myself when I think about it.
2. Paris. I have been so fortunate to visit Paris many times and it will always be my favorite city in the world.
3. Italy. From Venice to Tuscany to Cinque Terre, it's all incredible. I will never forget the incredible meal my husband and I enjoyed at a tiny restaurant on the Chianti Road in Tuscany. The oven was in the dining room which looked out onto olive trees. Doesn't get any better than that.
4. Austria. You don't hear much about Austria as a travel destination (at least I didn't before I went there), but it is breathtakingly beautiful. We traveled through the lakes region which is where much of The Sound of Music was filmed. In particular, the tiny village of Hallstatt was memorable.
5. The American Southwest. I loved Sedona, Santa Fe and Monument Valley. In fact, I would say seeing the sunset settle over the buttes in Monument Valley is one of my all-time favorite memories.
6. The Canadian Rockies. Banff is spectacular and Moraine Lake is incredible.
We must be travel twins! I love all of these places. I'd add Ireland--all of it. And two days ago I was here: Redfish Lake, ID. Heaven on earth!

I love everywhere I travel to....Italy is my part time home so I'll exclude that...
Africa
Australia & NZ
Scandinavia
I'm just back from Israel & Greece.....so they are high up there. One particularly moving experience: I was sailing The Sea of Galilee and they raised the American flag and played our anthem...the sailers, guide All stood with their hands on their hearts and sang our National Anthem so did all my fellow travelers, mostly American but one couple from Japan and another from NZ. I got chills in view of our controversy. So Israel will always be memorable for many reasons but that is one

I want your life.... No, really. I do.

I've travelled a lot, and plan to do much more, good Lord willing. We raised our daughters to love travel, also. Unfortunately, that means they are almost always halfway around the world on different occasions. (Last Christmas day, one was in Mozambique, the other in Tokyo!)
I'm retired from teaching, so have plenty of time to travel. Our future plans include an Alaskan cruise, Vancouver Island, and more of British Columbia. I want to visit all fifty states sooner or later--still have Hawaii, and the northeastern states (Maine, NH, VT, Mass, CT) on my list. Also eastern Canadian provinces.
Would rather travel than buy clothes and other things--don't need much new lately.
Also, you don't have to go far away to find a great destination--look around your area and enjoy what is close!

I have been many places, but Ireland was my favorite. I could live there and be very happy, as I love everything about it.

You mean the favorite vacation we've already had?
Domestic: A trip to yosemite over Christmas where I walked all over the place at night as the snow fell.
International: Germany

@Colinka Ireland is on my bucket list. I'll get there one day. Idaho looks amazing. My husband went to Boise last year on business and really liked it. I'm a sucker for mountains, so this is right up my alley.

I totally agree that you don't have to go far to travel well. I live in Massachusetts and one of my favorite places is Newport, Rhode Island, just a few hours drive for me. Newport is really underrated in my opinion. There are the mansions, the cliff walk, not to mention the downtown, which is lined with restaurants and shops, all set along the water.
Every year in mid to late October my husband and I take a day to go leaf-peeping, usually in New Hampshire. It's just a couple of hours from our house, but it's something we look forward to each year. We try to pick a new route each year, stop somewhere for lunch and just make a day of it. Travel doesn't have to be costly or require a passport. I think it's just opening up yourself up to a new place.
I also have to say that I don't feel any trip I've taken has been a waste. Obviously, some trips are better than others and there have been places that didn't quite meet my expectations. But I've learned that this is when it's important to adjust your expectations. I've had many trips where the weather was less than ideal (a solid week of pouring rain in the south of France somes to mind), so, of course, that's somewhat disappointing. But I got to see a place that many people never get to see, and I'm thankful for that, even if I could barely see through the rain drops and my umbrella was turned inside out.

I can't say I have a favorite place. I have enjoyed every trip I have ever taken. A lot of friends/relatives take the same trip year after year, usually to a beach. That doesn't work for me because there are so many places I want to visit and not enough time or money. Some places I have re-visited briefly to get my "fix" or because they are close, but, I am always researching, planning, and looking forward to the next adventure.

I would definitely have to say Hawaii. We have been 3 times to different islands, and I love it all. So beautiful and truly a place where you can do a lot if you wish, or you can lay by the pool or on the beach all day if you wish.....It is the most relaxing vacation as well....We have done the whole Disney thing many times when our girls were young, and while it was fun then, it would not be my choice now. I am sure we will do it in the future though when our granddaughters are old enough, grandson has already been......It sounds like I need a trip to the Southwest though, it sounds gorgeous. I have always wanted to visit New Mexico.......
