Going in May but have not yet booked hotel.  Any suggestions?  Last time stayed at The Rifinery which was very nice but want a differnt location this time.   NOT near Times Square!

We have stayed in a number of hotels in Manhattan.  Unfortunately, most are around the Times Square area which we definitely avoid.

The best one we've stayed in is a Hilton Garden Inn at 33 and Park.  You might want to try some hotels on the East Side.  I also have friends who stayed at the Beacon Hotel at Broadway and 74, I think.  

I hope you have a substantial budget for a hotel in May--hotel prices are ridiculous.

I would make a list of what sites or events you have planned, then decide on the area that serves you best. One key is to choose a hotel with easy subway access.

I feel each neighbor has its own slightly different vibe.

Hotel rates in NYC vary by date, with weekdays usually more than weekends. If you can adjust the dates of your trip you may save money.

@bargainsgirl   I stayed in a vacation rental at a cute brownstone in Brooklyn many years ago. We took the train into the city. Don't know if its a good option anymore.

Currently there is an Airbnb 30 day minimum stay requirement in Brooklyn.

My favorite is the Dominick, in Soho   It is pricey, but so worth it. It's noisier and busier near Times Square

enjoy your visit, NYC is a wonderful place to visit. Too much to do. It never stops.
