There are some national parks that you can still get into; try Petrified Forest near Holbrook on the 40.  We had planned on doing a couple of days in Sedona (pink jeep tour, Slide Rock) but there are so many forest fires in AZ that most national forests are closed.   We decided to do a water park and Medieval Times for the grands this year instead.
