Re: East Coast recommendations

@springers  Well that is quite a broad area you are talking about.   Either place would be a great time!   Boston is a great city with so much history, Maine is fabulous too but it depends where you want to go and what you'd like to do.  Maine is a huge state but the coast is beautiful (as is most of the New England coastline) .  Bar Harbor is a popular place and Acadia National park is a must see..... Cadillac Mountain is the highest point on the east coast and if you're into it you can hike up to see the sunrise as that's where it rises first.   Back to Boston, if there you have to visit Cape Cod and Newport RI is not far off either, Martha's Vineyard, Nantucket, Block Island are all great places to visit.  I'm sorry I am really not helping at all am I ?? !!!   LOL, I live in RI and New England just has so much to offer.  Whatever you decide I'm sure you will enjoy, you will just have to come back again to explore furtherSmiley Happy  Not sure if you're interested but Tauck tours I believe has a New England tour (or you can just google NE tours)  I did one in Nova Scotia with them that goes to Prince Edward Island and Cape Breton Island, which in my eyes is just a continuance of the east coast.

Best wishes, Happy travels.

If you're willing to head to New Hampshire, I would recommend taking the cog train to the top of Mt Washington (6,200+ft alt).  I did it many years ago when I was much younger.  Quite a thrill.  (At least it was for me.)

@springers  We really enjoyed taking Route 1 along Maine's coastline. There are wonderful little lobster shacks and some beautiful scenery! We have also been there for Rockland's Maine Lobster Fest. It is usually crowded and often hot, but it's fun if you are game! Here's a link to a Route 1 guide: It's kind of old, but the towns are still there. and you might find some other guides online.

Also, Camden, ME is the setting for the movie Payton Place. I didn't know it until after I spent a short visit there.

Southern Maine coast-Nubble Light lighthouse in York. Not far from York is Ogunquit a beautiful beachside tourist town. Marginal Way in Ogunquit is spectacular. Not plowed in the winter so it's questionable if it's walkable. It's been mild but I'm quite a distance from there.

Boston has so much. History, the arts, food, shopping. If you like art museums there's the Isabella Stewart Gardner art museum, and the much larger Museum of Fine Arts. I believe you can tour Fenway Park even in the winter. Freedom Trail guided walking tour. The North End if you like Italian food.

Couldn't tell from your post if you're visiting now or in the Spring/Summer.

I usually take my favorite cruise ship across the pond or New England.

I have been to Boston and Newport RI a few times.

I went on a weekend bus trip to a premium outlet mall, and this trip included a lobster feast.

You will find information for your trip at AAA or Vacation to Go online.

Re: East Coast recommendations

I agree with you when my husband was alive we used to go every fourh of July and stay at a nice little place called the Above Tide Inn and the fire works were shot off overthe beach there.  The place was very clean no frills but really nice.
