@PansyBoo - It's sad you missed that cocktail party, it would have been nice to attend. We didn't get invited to any party, but I guess because we were a group of girlfriends travelling together - LOL! Jet lag got to me on that trip too. The one thing I still have from my stay was the large postcard of the Blue Hawaii wedding scene we found in our room! Also enjoyed eating some meals at the Lagoon Dining Room and we went to Sunday service in the Chapel. I can still hear those palm trees swaying!

@Meowingkitty wrote:I'm in the minority here. Kauai was my least favorite island. We were there in May several years ago and it was so humid everything was wet. Money, toilet paper, our clothes, sheets were damp and limp. Just hot and humid. I guess being from the desert I wasn't used to the humidity. Glad we only had to spend 3 days there before going to Maui.
@Meowingkitty. I lived in Houston 35 years and absolutely cannot stand humid. Went on a Caribbean cruise in February and couldn't wait to get away from there. Never again.

@twinsister We live in Kauai part time and nobody has any success in rebuilding this hotel. The last corporation to buy the land had their building permit revoked a couple weeks ago. Of course, developers constantly push to rebuild in Kauai but the Hawaiians protest and have caused the termination of several renovations/new builds in the area.
I hope they can finally get that area looking nice, that dilapidated hotel is definitely an eye-sore. I just don't hold my breath as this has been a roller coaster for many years.
@Kachina624 and @Meowingkitty Kauai is known as the Garden Isle because it does get so much rain, therefore, it is green and lush on most of the island. The north shore is constantly wet, thus, we elected to purchase a home on the south shore. It is far more dry, somewhat like a desert with palm trees. It can be humid about 3 months out of the year. The rest is not bad, it is actually very pleasant. If you visit again, go in October or November or early Spring. I think you would be pleasantly surprised.

@cjm61 - I know there have been several attempts to rebuild and none have been successful. It's sad that it has been left in that condition for so long. Lucky you living in Kauai!! I loved it. We took a helicopter ride and the scenery was amazing.

Yes, DH and I stayed there in 1981 on our first trip to Hawaii. It was a memorable hotel--the eggshell shaped bathroom sinks stand out!!!- and I wonder why it has taken so long to reopen it.
@cjm61 Thanks for the info on why all the delays.

We were invited to a wedding at the Collegeville Inn but a hurricane intervened. The Inn was inundated that day so we never got there.
Growing up in the area, I seem to remember something about the buffets...

We stayed there in 1958 before Hawai'i was a state. Paradise back then. My sister and I (then 8 and 10) almost got to stay in Mitzi Gaynor's (yes, I'm old lol) suite when she was filming South Pacific, but my dad said it was too expensive. It was a beautiful resort, and I hope they being back the classic Hawaiian design when rebuilding.

I get 'The Garden Island", Kauai's newspaper, online & read it daily. Read the Coco Palms ordeal for years now. Glad they have come to a resolution. Personally, never stayed at that hotel. Sounds like it was a delight.
Go to Hawaii frequently, mostly Maui. Went to Kauai, 30 years ago & loved it. Went back in 2017 and really didn't like it. The beaches are no match for Maui's. Plus, they are heavily polluted with sewage, fecal matter & other. It's always mentioned in 'The Garden Island' newspaper. Today, it was mentioned again:
They give a chart showing areas affected, highest to lowest. It was a real turn off for me. I love Hanalei Bay and swam there all the time, first time I want to Kauai. But in 2017, because of stream runoff into the bay, I just couldn't get myself excited to go into the water in Hanalei or elsewhere. It was sad.

@jlkz The Perkiomen Bridge Hotel was directly across from the Collegeville Inn. I don't think it was operating when the Collegeville Inn was in it's hayday. We visited the Collegeville Inn many times for special occasions.
