We use credit cards to pay for everything in Canada, let your bank do the conversions for you on your statement. some charge a fee for conversion some dont.

I'd pay by credit card or Canadian money. It might be considered insulting to flash American currency in a foreign country. Canada might not seem all that foreign but they are not part of the USA. I think Americans would be perplexed if a tourist tried to pay in foreign currency. I've been to both great cities numerous times. Bon voyage

Canadian dollars can be purchased online or ordered and picked up through AAA.
