There are many options of where to stay on the Cape.  My favorite option is a B&B.  We live in RI and go out to Cape Cod often and you know, I have not been to that JFK museum you mentioned in Hyannis, only the one in Boston.   Depending on what type of lodging you like will dictate what you do, but I highly recommend staying  in the middle of the Cape such as Harwichport, Chatham or Brewster.  This way you are within driving distance to both ends and you can get to see a lot more that way.  Chatham is a lovely seaport town with lots of quaint shops and eateries on the Main street.   The entire Cape has a lot to offer so you should visit the Chamber of Commerce website.   The National Seashore is a MUST SEE!

My favorite bed and breakfast is Captain Freeman Inn in Brewster.  We stay every year in the Fall as it's my favorite place to be that time of year.   They have a year round  outdoor heated pool and a hot tub.  The Innkeepers are wonderful.

Have a great time but I must warn you..........it is addicting!!

We always travel in a motor home, so I can't recommend a place to stay, but I love it there.

Outdoor pool?  I hope you plan on traveling in the heat of the summer months...like July.  It gets cold there earlier than most places and normally  the summer temps don't get above 80 degrees.

I visited in early September once and I was glad I packed a winter coat.  Fall is a beautiful time to visit, but there are lots of tourists there and it can get cold.

There is a Fall Art Fest in September and an several oyster fests in October along with a seaside festival.

You can take the ferry to either Martha's Vinyard or Nantucket...a fun way to spend your time and money.

I hope you have fun.  There is a lot of great shopping too.

I was there June 2023 and loved it!  We stayed at an airbnb in Barnstable and that's a great location because it's easy to get around from there.  Maybe the hotels and or resorts have a pool, but we didn't find any airbnbs that did.  It wasn't warm, rainy and windy but we still enjoyed it.  Sounds like the storms going up the Atlantic coast have hit that area pretty hard.

@qvc chick We own a home in the South Yarmouth/Bass River area. I love this area of the Cape as you are centrally located and can go up or down the Cape to explore very easily.

If you would like an outdoor pool at a resort or hotel, I would recommend The Red Jacket Beach Resort and Spa, Bluebird Parkers Beach Lodge, The Ocean Mist, or The All Seasons. (I have stayed at all of these). They are all located in the South Yarmouth/Bass River area. The Ocean Club on Smugglers Beach looks nice but I have never stayed there. Just know that past September it can get chilly for outdoor swimming, some of these pools may be heated.

Chatham Bars Inn in Chatham looks lovely.

I would also look into a rental. I am sure you could find a house with a pool.

As far as things to do, there are so many! Each town has its own distinct personality. We love exploring! For outdoor activities, the National Seashore is just beautiful. There are many bike trails on the Cape. (you can rent them). Kayaking, The Dunes Trail,

The Pirate Museum and a waterpark if you have kids.

Bass River Farmers Market, Wellfleet Drive-In, Turo Wine Vineyard, Tree House Brewing Company in Sandwich, and like you mentioned the JFK Museum.

Cape Cod is beautiful in any season. We love just getting in the car and driving to explore a new beach or town. If you need anything else let me know. Have fun!!

We are going to Boston and the Cape too soon.  I don't think

if you are going now let's say October on it will not  be comfortable for a pool. Too chilly.

And motels go from low to high end.  I would check online for your price preference like a Booking.com place.

@Carmie  I loved Anthony Bourdain.  And so I thought one night we could go to "the Lobster pot" where he started his career.

Have you been there and what are your thoughts?

Thank you.

@LindaSal  this makes alot of sense.  Chatham is almost smack in the middle from Boston.

It is a 2 and a half hour drive from Boston.  But we had to choose Providence town because of Hurricane Lee last year and lost much money. But we have a credit to use.

Hope we have better luck than last year.

I think it will be nice sweater weather in a few weeks.

Cape Cod is a great choice! When I visited, I stayed in Hyannis and found a few hotels with nice outdoor pools—perfect for relaxing after a day out. The JFK Museum is definitely worth a stop; I loved learning about his time there. Make sure to check out some of the local beaches, too—Nantucket Sound has some stunning spots. If you enjoy nature, the Cape Cod National Seashore has beautiful trails and views.

2 fairy boat trips are a must, one to Nantucket and one to Marthas Vineyard, we always left from Hyannis.
