It's been a few years but I've used them quite a few times and never had a problem.

I’ve only rented once from VRBO but three years ago we got a house 5-8 minutes from Disney World for 900 for the week. (October)   There were 8 of us,  The house was nice, not extravagant, maybe the kitchen was 15 years old, but it was very nice.  No where near Disney could we have rented for that price.  4 bedrooms, three baths, an inground pool, gated community.  It was nice.  And got the space of a house vs. a hotel room.   There was not that fee at that time.  We were happy with the rental.

We rented a beach house in the Orange Beach area several times through VRBO and have never had a charge like this....wonder why? I will certainly be on the lookout for one in the future. This may be something relatively new.
