As a South Jersey transplant, there is no "best city."  Each has something different to offer.

Shore line cities all offer beaches, boardwalks, resorts.

Atlantic City & Brigatine (sp) are the only shore cities that has Casino Hotel/Resorts in So. Jersey.

Jackson:  6 Flags Great Adventure

Great eateries & food markets in all the cities.  Ponzio's in Cherry Hill (home of the Latin Casino) is one of the famous diners.  All celebs eat there when in the area.

Cherry Hill is also known for it's Cherry Blossem trees.  One street for a 2 mile stretch is lined w/them.

Excellent golf cources in Cherry Hill, Pennsauken, Pine Valley & Moorestown.

Camping in Medford

Hiking in Pine woods (where the Jersey Devil lives)whistling.gif

Hunting throughout the state

Camden Co - a few harness horse racing farms where you can go to watch the training & excercising.

Huge flea markets in all of So. Jersey.  I believe The Columbus indoor/outdoor flea market/farmers market is the largest in N.J or in the USofA.

@PA Mom-mom  You left out The Reading Terminal, South Street & The Italian Market.

SIDEBAR:  The flower show is "outside" this year.

EDIT:  OOPS!  you did include TRT.  My bad

@Mz iMac I'm sure I must have told you that I grew up in Cherry Hill and Ponzios was a high school hangout...oh how much the area has changed since then!

@proudlyfromNJ   I was going to mention Cape May but it slipped my 70 yr young mind.  I've never been there.  My younger brother has.  He lives in a shore town near there & goes to CM quite often.  He often tells me how beautiful that town is.  My brother is into antiques & he tells me there are a lot of antique shops there.

@Mz iMac  yes, lots of antique shops. We went one Christmas and stayed at the Angel of the Sea B&B. Gorgeous old Victorian. Took a horse and buggy one night around to see all the beautiful homes light up and decorated.

@proudlyfromNJ Another Cape May lover!  DH and I stayed at Angel of the Sea many years ago too.

I love the many Victorian B&Bs, cute shops & restuarants!  I love how Cape May has interesting events (well pre-covid) throughout the year and not just during the summer.  I would love to go sometime over the holidays.

I agree 100% but of course, I live here.  Traffic and drivers are horrible but the rest is wonderful.

.

@Bridgegal    I was wondering why you hadn't chimed in here.

I'm in RI so I would have to say Newport for sure.  It's a lovely seaport  town with lots of history, the best restaurants and shops right on the water.   We usually visit in the off sesason of course.   There's no better place to be on a sunny, fall day, IMO.

i live right up the road....was in newport the other night for take-out!  i also love the italian food on federal hill in providence!!

Santa Fe has been on my list for a while now. We generally fly to PHX to visit daughter but we may fly into ABQ next time and rent a car. When is the best weather month to visit Santa Fe?

There are a few metro suburbs in KC and STL that I could live in. Quaint towns, good stats.

@jeanlake

I'd say May if you want to see it while it's green or October if you prefer fall color and a little crispness.

@Wobin  I neglected to answer your question about music. There will be music at various spots along the river walk, but you might ask the concierge for the best spots. I am old and don't venture out much after the sun goes down LOL.

Floore's Country Store is a honky-tonk on the Old Bandera Highway in Helotes on the north side of San Antonio.  They have a website that posts who the performers will be. They can range from country to rock. Back in the day the radio station would would say something like "Floore's is having a special friend who is going to drop by." That was code for Willie Nelson. The locals knew to get there pronto. This place is quite a distance from downtown.

I was born and raised in SA. You brought up memories of Floore's. I saw Willie, there, too. I miss my hometown.

I can't recommend Cape May enough!!

We've been vacatioing there for many, many years. Pre-COVID we always visited at least 3 or 4 times a year. Sometimes for a week, sometimes just for two or three nights. Our favorite time to go is in late September through October. Less crowds and the weather is usually just perfect - not too hot or too cold.

Every season is special and beautiful, but around Christmas the city just takes on a magical feeling. All the beautiful decorations throughout the town, especially the gorgeous tree outside at Congress Hall. The one at Rotary Park ain't too shabby, either!

Walking or biking on the Promenade, the beach, the shopping, the restaurants, the wineries, boat rides, watching the sunset at either the Cove or Douglass Park - there's so much to see and do!
