@Traceybakes  The Tulip festival is April 1-30 this year. Secure tickets and bus pass departing from Schipol airport and other points. Several years ago DH and I were in Hanover Germany and realized the festival was in its last week so we took train to Amsterdam, stayed at hotel near airport, and caught bus to Keukenof Gardens for a beautiful experience. Also, on a previous visit to Holland we took a guided Waterland tour through the wetlands. This included paddling through wetlands on outskirts of Amsterdam, a picnic on the wetlands and a passionate guide of how wetlands are important to our world. This is one of the best activities we have experienced on our travels. Day trips via train are quick and easy to neighboring towns. We rented an apartment in Haarlem just outside Amsterdam for first trip and spent 10 days exploring. It is a wonderful country to visit.

I went to Europe in 2019. My first and only time. We went to Amsterdam, Paris, Rome, Florence and Venice. I was not thrilled about going to Amsterdam (someone else planned the trip) it turned out to be my favorite city. It's beautiful and the people are wonderful!

All the suggestions you got are great. I really enjoyed seeing the windmills.

We also took a little tour to to some villages and saw some small churches. I have a list of the cities included in the tour, if you're interested. The tour was private in a van with just the 10 of us.

The town with the windmills is Schermehorn.

I hope you have a wonder trip!

Went in 2019.  Loved it there.  Be careful and aware of bicycles.  They have right of way.  Museum reservations should be made in advance.  We went in May and were not able to get into many including VanGogh and Ann Frank house.  Take a dinner cruise on canal!  Wonderful sights and delish food!!

@Traceybakes   hi.  I am, going in October.  Let me know how you  like it.  My niece loves Amsterdam and she has been to many cities all over Europe.  I'll be curious to know your experience.  I am also going to Paris, London and Florence.  Safe travels

All of the suggestions are good ones. There are many side trips offered & we usually arrange them thru the concierge of the hotel where we will be staying at. The Hague is interesting, canal tours via boat are nice. If you enjoy art, Vermeer’s Girl with the Pearl earring is at The Mauritius. Of course, a visit to the windmills is a must & you usually see clogs being made which was actually quite interesting. There are many cheese tasting tours available. Amsterdam is a lovely city with a lot to do.
