What is the difference between the flex edge mixer and a regular mixer (without the flex edge)?

The flex edge beaters have rubber "scrapers" on one or two of the arms and supposedly scrape the walls of the bowl as they go around so you won't have to scrape down the bowl.

 

I don't really find they work so great but most people love them.  I prefer the old fashioned one without the flex edges, and I find I need to scrape down the bowl myself just because I want to poke around and see the texture!  LOL!!
