I saw one in the paper today that was smaller and $10 more.  If I thought I'd use it, I'd buy one.

Re: TSV-pressure cooker

My mother had a pressure cooker when I was a child too.  I remember once the rubber safety plug  came flying out and thousands of strands of sauerkraut  came out one or two strands at a time and stuck on our ceiling.  It was amazing to watch, but my mother was screaming because she thought the whole lid was going to blow off.

The new electric pressure cookers will not do that.  They are very safe.  The problem I have had with them is that they don't last very long.  I have had two from QVC  and they both lasted less than a year.  Therefore, I will never buy another one.

Stove-top PCs have been just as safe for some years now. And the two Kuhn-Rikon ones we have are built like a tank -- beautifully constructed stainless steel inside (no non-stick surface to get messed up) and out. I think they will outlive us all.

ETA: It would be nice if the description on the item page included the the PSI (pounds per square inch) for this model. Most electric pressure cookers do not cook at the standard 15 psi. This can affect timing for a recipe not written specifically for this appliance but for pressure cookers in general.

I just checked the manual online, and the working PSI is 12.

I think the pretty colors are the attraction whether you need one or not.

That's me!  I'd get black because it would go with all my other small appliances though.  I have no use for a pressure cooker nor room on my counter but it's so tempting!

I was tempted then read the low star reviews. 88 of them. All saying it stopped working within the first year. So I am not buying. Not worth the risk if they didn't fix the issue. And it seemed very widespread.

Does anyone know who is making this?  Deni used to make these under the CE brand.  Those were junk!  FYI: the new digital pressure cookers are mistake proof.  I have a NESCO and love it.  I really like this has a slow cooker feature.  Meridith's books are very good and are also available at Amazon for free shipping for all of us Prime members.

The simple answer without going into details is NO.

Check with the manufacturer.  It must cook at 15 PSI and the time you cook depends on your altitude. I was a food preservation specialist with Colorado State University Extension service.  There are rules!  Most of the new digital pressure cookers are safe to can in.  If you are a serious canner, it's best to go to a larger model designed just for canning.  These can be tested yearly to make sure they continue to hold the right PSI.  Check with your local Extension Service.  They can also send you specific info or you can go online to the USDA to make sure you're doing things correctly.  Canning veggies & meat is serious business with very serious consedquences if you make a mistake.

Slightly O/T here ---

Can someone explain to me why $6 or $7 dollars off the regular price is no big deal, but paying$ 6.95 to send back something you ordered and then couldn't use is horrific?

My money head works differently -  I like to save even small amounts of money so that when I need to spend money whether it's shipping money or something huge like a car repair or something reslly disgusting like a cesspool, I have a few extra dollars.   For me, it all comes from the same pocket, so yes, $6 for something I'm definitely wanting to buy is a big deal.

Even more right now since what's in short-term savings is earning less than $1 on a hundred!
