We have both a Shark and a Dyson. We previously had one of the big, bulky Dysons. I originally bought a corded Shark becasue I didn't like how the Dyson would blow lightweight things like cat hair around the bare floors instead of sucking it up. I am much happier with the Shark for bare floors, but we still used the Dyson for carpet, or should I say I used the older Dyson on the carpet.
DH really wanted one of the cordless Dysons, so we finally bought one of those. It's a win for me because now DH vacuums the carpet. It's not without it's issues though. The filter seems to get clogged a lot and more and more frequently and the hopper doesn't hold much debris although the hopper for the Shark doesn't hold much either. But, there's a lot more cat hair in the carpet.
I really want to say something about that Dyson challenge though. Yeah, I did it and it worked. BUT, then I decided to try it in reverse in another location, and guess what? Got dirt with the old machine following the new Dyson. Hmmmm.

Huh... not sure why there is so much hate about Dyson in this thread. I own two Dysons and love them both so much. The first is a corded regular size vaccum that is a beast at picking up literally anything, especially from carpet/rugs. And two years ago I bought the stick cordless one and I use that one multiple times a day in the kitchen area. Basically any time my kids eat, I have to do a quick vaccum afterwards. Quality has been great on both with no issues. I did not purchase either from QVC.

I have had two Dyson vacs. Onecorded, and one cordless. I lobe them both. My cordless is still going strong five years later. I had a Shark as well and I liked it well enough. I have several other Dyson items and am happy with them.
If you don't like the price point fine but no need to bash the brand.

I didn't see this thread as bashing the brand. It was more that they were bashing QVC for their sales spiel. I also didn't think most of the posts bashed the brand either.
