I purchased two years ago the 6 qt. which I loved.  I was cooking a 2 1/2 lb. chuck roast frozen and it took 4 hours to cook while I kept getting an error message E4 if I remember correctly.  Now I'm wondering if it was because the meat was frozen, or did the heating/cooking element break?  I have now ordered the todays special.  I love this pressure cooker.  I did not throw away my old one yet, but would love if you could address this for future use.  Thank you.

@grammi-3. An E4 error message means that the cooker has had a signal switch malfunction.  Unplug the cooker for 15 minutes and then plug it back in, press cancel and try again.  If that doesn't work, you can call customer service at (800) 365-6133 x120 and they will be able to help - you may need a replacement thermofuse.  With regards to frozen, a pot roast never comes out as nicely when you try to cook from frozen - the outside of the meat overcooks and dries out before the inside is properly cooked.  Hope that helps.  ML

Can the recipes in your new cookbook Al's!o be used for the 6 quart one that cook essentials has?

Thanks for asking, @FoodieJane.  Those recipes absolutely can be used in any cooker bigger than a 4 qt.  I just wanted people to be sure they knew that they can all work in a 4 qt.  It's easier to increase the recipe proportionally than to decrease it.  If you do increase the recipe, the cooking time remains the same.  Have fun!

Re: Pressure Cooker Chat coming 4/6 with The Blue Jean Chef!

Hi!  I'm excited about this pressure cooker.  It's the perfect size for my family, I know we'll use it several times a week, it's a great price, and it looks beautiful!  However, when I read the reviews for the CE 6qt. cooker, I was concerned that were several users that reported what seem to be manufacturing defects.  Have those problems been addressed in the 4qt.?  Also, what is the actual base footprint measurement?

If I got the 6 qt. Pressure cooker instead of the 4 qt. Can I still use the 4qt recipes in your book or is the 6 qt too big for 4 qt recipes?

Hi @marshy.  No worries! You can use the 4 qt. recipes in any cooker size 4 quarts or bigger.  You can cook the recipes as is, OR increase them to suit your cooker.  If you increase the recipe, the cooking time remains the same.

I have a older model 4qt cooks essential  pressure cooker. What I don't have and really want is the stanless steel wire rack available with the 4 qt pressure cooker  as todays special value. Is this 4 inch rack availabe as a seperate item which I can order for my pressure cooker that I already own? I sure hope it is cause i really could use this rack. Thank-you Merideth for all your pressure cooker cook books. I just ordered your new book today designed for 4 qt pressure cookers.

THanks, @kennyboy!! I'm afraid the stainless steel rack is not available by itself, but we do have the silicone insert set (K44245) available and that has a silicone rack/steamer tray that you can use.

Hi Meredith,  can I use your 4qt recipes in the 6 qt pressure cooker or would there be too much empty space?

HI @marshy. No problem!  You can use all the 4 qt. recipes in any cooker - 4, 6, 8 or even 10 quarts in size.  You can also increase the recipe if you want to, increasing the ingredients proportionally but keeping the time the same.

Can you please, please tell me about the non stick coating, is it pfoa, ptfe free, that is very important, the same with your air fryer. What is the coating on the basket. No one has been able to answer that question. It is not mentioned in the presentation

Hi @greys4u.  Good question. There's a lot of confusion out there about non-stick coatings.  There are two types of coatings - ceramic coatings and PTFE coatings.  Both are FDA-approved and 100% safe.  Ceramic coatings are not metal utensil safe and do not last as long as PTFE coatings.  PFOA is used to help the non-stick adhere to pots and pans and at high temperatures over 500ºF there has been some concern over its use.  Our cook's essentials cookware is a PTFE coating for long life and is PFOA-free because it gets to over 500ºF. The non-stick on the pressure cooker today is a PTFE coating.  It is not PFOA-free because the thermofuse in the cooker turns off when it reaches 271.4ºF.  With residual heat build-up, the heat can get to 356ºF, but never gets as high as 500ºF.  I hope that helps.

Morning - I have a 6 qt Cooks Essentials Pressure Cooker and wonder if the recipes in your new cookbook will accomodate the larger size pressure cooker.  Thanks. Smiley Happy

Hi @katte.  They can absolutely be used in a larger cooker - no problem.  You can cook them as is in a larger cooker, or increase the ingredients (keep the time the same) to make more food in a larger cooker.  Thanks for asking!

I have a Question!!!   Love, Love, Love!! I have had the 6 Qt Cook's Essential PC since the original TSV.  It is the one appliance that I am most partial too!! I have purchased two PC's (for myself & my mom), 2 of your original PC cookbook, and 2 sets of the cooking  pans-inserts! (Love Love Love & a must have!)  My question is in the instruction manual FAQ on page 23 question #3!!  Occasionly (not always) my PC will build pressure and then beep 5 times for the end of cycle and click into warm mode.   I have attempted to recycle several times and it will not finish cooking.   Next time I use it, it works perfect!  How do I get the PC to seal when this happens?  I have tried to fix per the instruction manual but it is not working.   Last week this happened for the first time to my mom.   Please make any suggestions to help me guarantee that my seal will build pressure!!!  About to purchase another 6 qt for my MIL for Mother's Day!!  Thank you in advance,  MB

HI @imthatgirl!  Thanks so much!!  Check out this page with some helpful videos on things that can hinder you sometimes: http://www.qvc.com/PressureCookerGuide.content.html The cooker is beeping because  it has sensed there is not enough liquid in the pot. This happens sometimes when there is a minimal amount of liquid in a recipe and some of it has evaporated before the pressure is reached.  One way to avoid this is to keep you eye on it as it is coming to pressure and give the lid a firm push down when steam starts to be released from the cooker - one of the videos shows you this.  That helps the gasket form a seal more quickly and less evaporation occurs.  If it happens again to you, open up the cooker, check the gasket, add a litlte more liquid and try again.  Check out the videos - I think they will help. You can also find more information and a pressure cooker inservice video on my new website www.bluejeanchef.com under "Pressure Cooking 101".  Enjoy it and keep up the pressure!  Smiley Wink
