Re: Nostalgic Porcelain ChristmasTree

I am 66 and I made my first one in a ceramics class about 50 years ago (from cleaning the greenware to adding the glaze, having it fired, choosing the small lights).  My mother made a white one that was a little larger and quite pretty when lit.  Mine was the traditional green and I used it for at least 35-40 years.  In recent years, I have seen some of these "homemade" ones in antique stores.   Unless you break them, they last forever.  A friend of mine has been using the one she made about 45 years ago and it stilll works just fine.

I have been wanting these small trees to give to my now grown up daughters.  Their grandma, my Mom, made each girl a small white one in ceramics class years ago, and my girls loved them.

Of course I somehow lost them during multiple moves over the years and now my girls want them for their children.

But I don't want Chinese imports!

One poster mentioned Vermont Country store but I didn't find them there on-line.  Any one know where I can find American made ones? TIA

Ebay has a lot of the vintage ones in all colors and sizes and a wide range of prices.  Vermont Country Store might have them when it gets closer to Christmas.

I have been packing for a move from FL to TX.  I found 3 of these in varies sizes and colors.   I knew I had them but didn't know where they were till the other day.  They were a big deal in my life time.

Re: Nostalgic Porcelain ChristmasTree

My mom made one of these  over 40 years ago when she took a ceramics class.  The one she made was white  and had different colored plastic "bulbs" that fit over the lights in the tree.  It also has red cardinal "bulbs" also.  The red cardinals are really pretty on the white tree.  My mom died 3 years ago and I'm so happy I have this tree to put outat Christmas time.  It brings back a lot of memories.

What a wonderful sentimental memory and treasure you have.  I'm sure each night you light it during the holidays your dear mother will be enjoying her tree with you and family.

Re: Nostalgic Porcelain ChristmasTree

I got my first one over 40 years ago. A local woman use to sell them at a craft show around Thanksgiving. Then I received another one from my boss in the 80's and then three more at a garage sale. Over the years I did break one and had to get it replaced by a ceramic gal that made them. Finally I have given one to each of my grown children. I still own two. It wouldn't be Christmas without them. I almost talked myself into buying the TSV in white, but then my hubster said, 'I don't think you need it" Smiley Happy

Re: Nostalgic Porcelain ChristmasTree

In the 60's our most cherished Christmas decoration was a table top Twinkle Tree my mom received as a hostess gift for having a home party for Stanley products.   That little tree was very special to my family, and lasted for many years.

I inherited my maternal grandmothers ceramic tree, and also received a small ceramic tree as a gift from one of my former bosses.   I display my grandmothers tree year round on my curio cabinet and enjoy seeing it every day.

My mom used to have a green tree many years ago.  It was plug in.  I bought the large white and two small white.  I think I may give my mom the large one and keep the 2 smaller ones.
