Yes, I can't believe people aren't researching before buying such an expensive item. It makes me sad.

Does anyone know if you can purchase an ipad mini with retina wifi + cellular and just use the wifi without activating at time of purchase? I would like one but don't really want the monthly bill, but still have the option of using it IF needed. I would appreciate help with this. Thank you.

I think many people buy these TSVs because of the ability to use easy pay. I love my ipad mini, but I bought it at Target using my red card and got a 5% discount.

I don't blame Apple (not sure why it's their fault as the OP stated)...I blame the Q for passing off old stuff and inflated prices.
They do this constantly. Just because they throw in some extras and easy pay, its somehow supposed to be a deal.
I saw a current IPad Mini in the paper today for $400.

As long as people are happy with their purchases, that's what matters. Some people wouldn't be able to buy one were it not for easy pay.
Some people probably think they are getting a good deal. Some would say, "ignorance is bliss" (I don't mean that in a bad way, just that if they don't know any better, they aren't unhappy).
Everyone has his or her idea of what they want.

I actually think it DOES matter that they are over-charging for these items. If people knew better, or did their research, and stopped paying it, they would have to stop charging it. Plus, it matters that people who really don't have the tools at hand to do their own research are getting ripped off.
I just don't think it's right. If people, who are paying several hundred dollars more than the items are worth, think they are getting a good deal maybe it wouldn't matter to them when they learn better. But maybe it's money that would have been better used elsewhere and they don't have a lot of extra, but they figured that was what they would have to pay to have the technology so they just paid it. If I were in that position and learned down the road that I was ripped off I'd be very unhappy about that.
Educating people about these things is just one step. That's why it is NOT a bad thing to tell people the truth when they come to this board to ask if such-and-such is a good deal.

I think some people can feel intimidated by computer personnel. I like to go directly to the Apple store myself and see exactly what it is I'm getting and try it out to see if it is really what I want for my particular needs. I traded in my Ipad in August to Best Buy, and received a gift card, dh did same with his Ipad and we put that towards a new fancy TV for our bedroom. I did purchase a new ipad Mini at the Apple Store and LOVE it! My dh actually has an Ipad for work as well, and it seems so bulky now compared to my mini! I have a laptop for work and one for home and of course we have a desk top so we have choices.
Some people may like the EZ pays too. Usually if you want the latest and greatest - go to the source - but I'm sure that selling here appeals to less computer schooled and makes it easy ![]()
