12:30 a.m. Eastern (half-past midnight, wee hours Wednesday) --   "Woman on the Run".    Ann Sheridan, Dennis O'Keefe, Robert Keith, Ross Elliott, John Qualen

Discussed this briefly last week in conjunction with Ann's "Star of the Month" status.  She's terrific in this suspense thriller-- a jaded wife whose artist husband (Ross Elliott) inadvertently witnessed a gangland incident, and has gone on the lam for his safety.  The police in the form of veteran character player Robert Keith (real life father of Brian Keith, by the way),  and a rugged, persistent reporter are now dogging her in hopes of a lead on hubby....  And the reporter may have romantic, as well as journalistic, goals in mind...

This is so enjoyable for several reasons.  The slightly more "mature" Ann Sheridan has a soulful quality onscreen-- so even when she's a little unsympathetic (she seems embittered about her husband, and not that interested in his welfare),  you like her and root for her.  Dennis O'Keefe is a favorite noir actor, the film has hairpin twists, and finally, the location shooting in 1950-era San Francisco is so refreshing.  That long-vanished San Francisco is reminiscent of the city in another memorable film noir, "Sudden Fear",  with Joan Crawford.

Great half-past midnight fare for tonight!
