"THE V.I.P.'S" ELIZABETH TAYLOR RICHARD BURTON MONDAY 5:45 P.M. EASTERN

178303_original.jpg

5:45 p.m. Eastern, Monday--    "The V.I.P.s".     Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, Maggie Smith, Louis Jourdan, Margaret Rutherford, Rod Taylor, Orson Welles

I know that others here share my fondness for this nonstop suds-athon, and really don't tire of re-airiings!    La Liz is delectable,  Burton tormented, the under-rated Jourdan is actually a sympathetic society hanger-on.   Love Margaret Rutherford as a dizzy aristocrat, and fabulous, smitten Maggie Smith trying to conceal her love for adorable Rod Taylor.

Oh, it's a good one, all around, and great way to spend a late Monday afternoon...

@Oznell  - I don't think I have seen this movie.  Is this the one that  takes place at an airport? Will set my DVR.

ETA:  It looks like TCM is having a tribute to Liz Taylor all day tomorrow.  It may be her birthday.  Butterfield 8 (at 2PM) is a great movie - I think she won the Oscar for it.  I also liked her in Ivanhoe which is on before VIP's.

As I have told you many times, this is one of my favorite Taylor/Burton movies.  I could watch it on a loop for days I think. Cat LOL

The "supporting" cast is so good and the story do deliciously soap-opera that I cannot resist falling in love with Burton with all his flaws.  Elizabeth, of course, sleeps in full makeup and is stunning in every scene.

Forgot to mention Maggie Smith being so young and pretty and Rod Taylor is magnetic!  It's a toss up between him and Richard for me Cat LOL

Caught a few minutes of her in another favorite, "Cat on  Hot Tin Roof" the other day with Paul Newman.  Two impossibly beautiful people...you cannot look away Cat LOL

I always laugh when she calls the kids little "no neck monsters."  That white dress, her diamond necklace and her pursuit of Brick make it irresistible even if it is dated.

There is one Elizabeth Taylor movie that is rarely shown. It is Ash Wednesday with Henry Fonda. It is a story of a woman whose husband is having an affair and she has had a lot of plastic surgery to try to win him back. It is a good movie but it is rarely shown on television.

I happened to catch a bit of Benny Hill Show last night.

It started out with the opening credits for the movie "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf".

The lettering was huge. Like you would see on a movie theatre. But they were broadcasting on a small screen TV. So you saw the lettering as, small lettering "Who's Afraid of" and LARGE lettering that read "V i r g i n Wool".

Benny Hill played the part of both Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton.

Not sure Elizabeth Taylor fans would appreciate HER being portrayed by Benny Hill. But I thought Benny Hill was quite good at imitating them. He especially sounded like Richard Burton.

@lgfan  The movie is on YouTube.  I'm downloading it now.   Never seen or heard of this one.  Thanks for heads up.

Right you are, @twinsister ,  the backdrop of the airport is a very important part of the film's atmosphere.  I even love the "manager" guy who takes care of all the VIP passengers in his care.  It's fun that they are doing a marathon on her birthday.

@Witchy Woman ,  I thought of you when alerting this.  Figured you probably had your own recording of this delicious outing.

I enjoy the films you posters have mentioned.  Also like obscure ones like "Night Watch",  a murky English thriller of hers.  And, exotic"Elephant Walk",  and oh, yes, the Cold War spy thriller she did where she's married to increasingly suspicious-acting Robert Taylor.  Another case of two beautiful people acting in tandem!

Momentarily forgot the name of the spy thriller with Robert Taylor--  it's  "Conspirator".

Was looking at more "V.I.P.'s" pictures.   I just think Elizabeth looked so fantastic in this film, as well as having a rather sensitive, soulful role to play.

If I'm not mistaken, like Merle Oberon, she sometimes wore her own magnificent jewels in her films.

Love the elegant simplicity of her looks in this.  And nobody sips tea in an airport coffee shop with the pensive intensity of this star....

@Oznell

Thanks to you, I was able to savor most of this film while I was preparing dinner last night.

It never disappoints!  I always notice little details I've missed.

Love the pics you posted...I once wore my hair up like hers for a wedding I was in.  It was the style back then to have it piled high with curls.

Until next time with Elizabeth and Richard Cat LOL
