Midnight Eastern--  "Scandal Sheet"  Broderick Crawford, Donna Reed, John Derek

Realized I gave short shrift to this one in tonight's smashing schedule of film noirs.  So it gets a separate entry!  Terrific midnight movie.  

Broderick Crawford is an intense newspaper editor, whose long-lost wife shows up, threatens to blow his new identity, and ends up on the losing end, permanently.

My memory of this is that Crawford killed her accidentally, so not sure why the huge cover-up, but then there wouldn't be this tight, vastly entertaining cat-and-mouse film, would there?!  John Derek is his gung-ho young reporter on the case, unknowingly investigating his own editor.  There's a nice, unexpected role for Donna Reed as a watchful, savvy reporter.  Really like her in this.

Trivia--  Yes, this is the John Derek who was Bo Derek's ex...

@Oznell   I'm recording this, but my main memory of Crawford will always be his '50s TV program "Highway Patrol" -- "10-4?  10-4!"

Absolutely, @vsm!  At one point one of the retro channels was carrying "Highway Patrol" in the wee hours-- wish I could remember which one...

Broderick Crawford was really good also in "All the King's Men", playing a thinly disguised version of Huey Long.
